Capturing Perfect Baby Photos | Your Baby Moments

Canon capturing baby momentsAs parents we’re constantly clicking away either on our phones or our digital cameras and I for one have a whole stash of photographs sitting on my computer. Honestly, I take photos daily (and that’s not even because of the daily BabyandSuperman shoots I do) but I’m not very good at capturing baby photos. A good 90% of those photos are either blurry or have been taken in haste and just isn’t fully frame worthy. I must also admit that I capture some solid moments of Little Monkey but Baby Boy is a bit harder. Pre-schoolers enjoy modelling a lot more than a baby! Which is why I’m loving the latest Canon initiative which teaches us how to capture our baby’s moments perfectly!

Disclosure : I have received compensation as part of my affiliation with Canon, but as always, opinions are totally mine.

Capturing the perfect baby moment, siblings. kids at playWe don’t need to be professional photographers to capture the important milestones with finesse. The Your Baby Moments app by Canon provides parents  (or anyone with a little one in their life!) with tips, tricks and ideas on how to capture those special moments. The Facebook app (don’t worry you don’t need to install anything or giveaway your liver or precious security details) focuses on the very first year of a baby’s life but honestly, the tips are useful for any stage of a kid’s life.

Baby Boy just crossed the one year mark but the Your Baby Moments app has sparked quite a few new ideas for me and just because I missed out on picturing his tiny feet during those first few months, doesn’t mean I can’t do it now! The app breaks down the list of options between 0-3 months, 4-6 months, 7-9 months and 10-12 months and each stage has quite a few options in terms of staging and capturing key milestones. Each photo shoot idea clearly breaks down the settings, gear and staging required to capture the moment perfectly. I also like that the ideas don’t require many props or make you spend money on expensive backdrops. It’s all very simple yet results in precious pictures. Yes most photos suggest a bright sunny area with a white sheet to deflect harsh light and of course they recommend using the Canon EOS Rebel S1 for the shoot but you know that you can use any DSLR you have around and get similar results. The most important feature for me is that the app calls out the lens we should be using. This is an area I’m not very comfortable in so having it clearly outlined helped me quite a bit. The calendars we make this year are going to have some stellar photos thanks to yourbabymoments.ca.

During the summer one of Little Monkey’s favourite activities is heading to the swings at our local playground and as a result, Baby Boy spent quite a few afternoons gurgling as we tried to swing him. I took some photos and thought they were decent enough, but once I saw the option laid out in the Your Baby Moments app, I realized that my mini photo shoot could have had so much potential by me simply changing the position I clicked from! The app has quite a few little neat tricks that will take any parent’s photo shoot to the next level. Thanks to Canon you don’t need to have a professional photographer following your kids around 24-7.

Baby Boy isn’t walking yet but I’m excited to try out some tips to capture him walking for a future Fashion Friday post! Perhaps he’ll walk when we’re in Brussels in a few weeks, luckily our Canon DSLR will be with us on the trip as well! Swing by yourbabymoments.ca to get some ideas for your next photo session and let out your inner PAPArazzi or MAMArazzi, proudly!

What are some of your challenges in capturing that perfect baby photo?

Canon is the go-to brand for photography so I think it’s a great idea for them to come out with an app as well.

This sounds like a great app. I’m always wondering what I can do to get more fun shots or improve the artistic quality of my photos so I take something frame-on-the wall worthy. This sounds like it might be able to help me out! 🙂
