An evening of Cooking with CUTCO

A couple weeks ago the hubs and I attended the #FoodiesForever event hosted by CUTCO with the aim

of sharing their passionate role in the Foodie Revolution of educating and inspiring Canadians to make healthier food choices. The Liaison College in downtown Toronto was the background and on arrival, bloggers and foodies alike were greeted with Hors d’oeuvres and Chateau Des Charmes samplings.

When I first received the invite I knew I had to take the hubs with me because he’s very passionate about good knives and has actually banned me from using certain knives we own because of my clumsiness and laziness. Having been approached by CUTCO during his college years to be an ambassador, he was a bit dubious on attending the event as he assumed it was a recruiting event in disguise of a cooking class. Luckily I won this round! He had a great time despite being the only male in our team.

After an hour of mingling we were divided into teams and off we went to the kitchen to fix up our dinner. It was a great learning experience as we got first hand experience using the various knives and tools and for those who were not  used to being in the kitchen, a few tips and tricks were also picked up.

The eight (or so) of us teamed up under the tutelage of our CUTCO ambassador and prepared a fairly simple and extremely healthy meal. Having the right knife can seriously make a difference! I always rely on the hubs to cut up the bread and big fruits like watermelon and pineapple, because I steer clear of big knives. Ofcourse with the CUTCO knives, it LOOKED pretty easy, but I was taking no chance. I can’t have the few kitchen responsibilities on the hubs’ list falling on to mine. Best to pretend that I don’t know how to do certain things 😉

I can tell you that the meal was definitely much healthier than anything I’d cook up on a regular basis. It was also meatless, much to our disappointment but our health’s celebrations. Don’t get me wrong we were huge fans of the menu and plan to incorporate it into our meals in the very near future. However both the hubs and I know that we’re big eaters, we were a bit hungry once we got home and noshed on some meat! hah!

  • Raw Kale Salad with Citrus dressing (I always cooked or baked my kale, but it’s quite delicious raw with some citrus in it to soften things up!)
  • Veggie Quinoa (using coconut oil!!)
  • Fruit Salad with Poppyseed dressing

Everything prepped with simple ingredients and minimal prep time.

Paired with Chateau Des Charmes 2011 Aligoté and Sauvignon Blanc

Ofcourse the goal of the evening was to get  us talking about CUTCO and how it’s been around for over 50 years. The hubs and I were already aware of CUTCO (though we do not own any…) and knew about their lifetime guarantee. Yes once you buy a CUTCO knife they will come and sharpen it for you FOREVER!! Ofcourse they do need to stay in business so they have a gazillion types of knives and pans, one for every imaginable thing you’d want to cut and cook. Including pennies you’d want to cut up. CUTCO has relied on students to market and sell their products for years (think Mary Kay, Arbonne, Tupperware like parties) and are now reaching out to bloggers and social media to get the word out. While this is definitely not my cuppa tea I know that it can be lucrative for the right personality.

One of the many new ventures is that CUTCO ambassadors will come to your home and help you and your friends put on a simple meal like the one we made. All in exchange for some air time and play time with their goods ofcourse! I think it’s a great way for girlfriends, young couples and those generally looking to have a simple but fun night in to try something different at minimal cost. The Ambassador does all the prep work so you’d essentially be hosting your friends for the evening. Once again, I’ve been cooking for a while and many of my friends often as me for tips and tricks, so this isn’t for me. However I must admit that the hubs and I enjoyed an evening out, brushing up on our skills and meeting some fab folks! We’ve also decided that perhaps CUTCO knives may be our wedding gift of choice for 2013. So if you’ve invited us for your wedding… you know what you’re getting!

Sounds like a great event! I’ve never had a great knife set, but I’ve heard it can make quite the difference! 🙂

I only own terrible dull knives. Would love to have something that will actually cut a tomato.
