Craft Beer Travel Souvenirs

Most travellers have something they like to collect during their travels and whether it be a coaster, a magnet or key chain, we all tend to bring back a piece to remind us of the good times and fabulous experiences we encountered on our travels. Through my 33 years of travelling I’ve collected keychains, stamps, hat pins and shot glasses but that has changed since I’ve grown older wiser. I kid you not, I have a bag filled with over 200 key chains gathering dust in the corner of my cupboard along with an extremely dusty hat that has 34 pins. I may even do a throwback post on Instagram later today if I get around to it. You need proof right?

Two years ago (the Little Monkey has added to our clutter and we haf no more space!) I came to realize that I have no more space for my 49 shot glasses and decided I should find something different to remind me of our travels. So we now do  three things. The hubs hunts down craft beer and hot sauce to bring back and I look for ceramic bowls. The rule is that we don’t NEED to bring back anything, only if it really speaks to us. Over the last two years I’ve aquired a bowl from Mexico and one from Ireland but have nothing else that I found to bring back – I must be picky! The hubs on the other hand has brought back over 100 bottles of craft brews and about 8 bottles of hot sauce.

This #IGTravelThursday I wanted to share some of our finds through our travels. We tend to age our beers and savour our hot sauce but what I love most about our new collection is that we share these with our friends upon our return. Over good hot sauce laden food (served in my newly aquired bowls) we drink our craft beers and share stories of where we picked up what. The hubs is very serious about his beers so he does quite a bit of research but often we rely on samples we’ve had breweries or what the locals have directed us towards. No going wrong (even with a bad beer) when you share it with good friends and loved ones.

The challenge is that all three of these items are rather heavy. Ceramic bowls, beer bottles and hot sauce bottles can easily eat into our already dwindling luggage space that’s filled with baby gear. Which is why we try to squeeze in a couple road trips each year, to stock up on our souvenirs! When we fly somewhere we swap the diapers for our souvenirs on the way back and it’s working out great so far. If you’re on Instagram join in the #IGTravelThursday shares!

What do you collect during your travels?

I personally think that both of these things are a good thing to pick up, especially the craft beer.

What a fun idea to bring craft beer and sauces. I used to collect shot glasses from Hard Rock Cafes as well as pins when I was much younger, but now we tend to bring spices and other treats from our travels. Funny how we change over time!

We do kind of the same – we mainly bring back food or drink. I just had some pasta with the Italian cheese I brought home last weekend, delicious!!

Italian cheese…. mmmm. I was a kid when I was there so can’t recall but I bet it’s delicious!

This is a great idea! I usually bring back a bottle of wine when I travel…not so much a beer fan.

I should start collecting things when I travel. The last time I went somewhere I grabbed nothing to commemorate my travels. The time before that a mere keychain. Time to collect!
