Eating out with baby – Banh mi Boys

Alright so technically speaking this is a sandwich spot and not something you’d expect to see in my dining out with  baby series and I did debate about writing about them. However after three visits in the last 2 months I think they deserve a shout out. For those not in the know, banh mi is Vietnamese for (all sorts of) bread. What the brothers behind Banh mi Boys have done is serve up some awesome deliciousness fusing the world of cultures.

The Queen Street location opened in early 2012 and there were maad lines ups which deterred me from venturing out there. Finally a year later we made it out on a cool Sunday afternoon and fell in love with the cheap delicious eats. The Little Monkey did as well. So needless to say when they opened a new spot down the street from us… we were ecstatic! It’s a great spot for us to take out of town visitors when we’re looking for a quick bite but something that’s interesting and out of the norm.

Note that there’s no high chairs or booster seats here but the Little Monkey had no issues sitting on the red benches and entertained herself quite well!

The Yonge Street location has no steps which makes it easy for us to take our strollers in, infact, we took two strollers and managed to park them out of the way. It’s a small spot with about 30 seats so while I’m sure they don’t enjoy having strollers in there, no one gave us the stink eye. Just be nice and fold it out of the way. Don’t let a lineup deter you from enjoying the fabulous eats here! The lineups moves quite quickly and you can watch them prep your meals in front of you. Steamed Bao (braised beef cheek and five-spice pork belly are my faves! and the Little Monkey loves the Bao bread) and the Tacos are highlights for me. The Taco base is actually a roti and not your usual Taco shell! Very cool idea. The Kalbi Beef  is a go to Taco filling for me. The hubs often gets the Banh mi (Sandwiches) and I’ve nibbled on them but still prefer the Tacos and Baos best.

And let’s not forget the Kimchi Fries, the Little Monkey’s absolute favourite! Crispy fries slathered in house mayo,  kimchi and pulled pork.  Oh and here’s a secret… a secret item on the menu try ordering the pork belly and fried chicken called a Club Bao! Vegetarians also have options so it’s a great spot for every palate and with Tacos and Baos priced at under $4 it’s hard not to visit often!
