Diaper bag must haves for a travelling newborn

Looking for a go to list for a travelling newborn’s diaper bag? I was too! I prefer to travel as light as possible, with no hand luggage. Ofcourse with a little one in tow that is no longer an option. The carry on bag is crucial and given my hardcore Girl Guide’s “Always be prepared” motto… I try to cram  a lot into a tiny bag.

This week we had some very sad news, my husband’s Nan was  very ill and we booked a last minute flight to St. John’s in the hopes that we would be able to  introduce the Little Monkey to her Great Grandmother (she was there for the birth but long story short, they didn’t meet each other due to a delay in  the Little Monkey’s arrival). So here we were hopping  onto a flight in twelve hours. I had to ensure I got it all…here’s what I like to pack in the baby’s carry on.

  1. Two blankets – you might  remember me talking about it here
  2. Two pacifiers (we  always tend to lose one!)
  3. Three bottles of milk (no matter how long my flight is, I prefer to have about 15 oz as I know it will be consumed over the course of seven hours (you can put in over ice in the throw up bags if you want to keep them longer or on longer haul flights in the cabin fridge)
  4. A diaper for every two hours (door to door) along with wipes and diaper cream, excessive I know
  5. A change of clothes for every four hours (door to door).  I like to have a mix of sleepers, pants and onesies so  that you can always have a couple of options depending on the spill, throw up or poops! I  always have three pairs of socks and a bib as well
  6. Nursing cover
  7. Sample size body wash, cream and baby Tylenol. In a bind I use the body wash to wash pacifiers that get thrown around
  8. Change pad – disposable ones and the good one
  9. Four burp cloths
  10. Random items for me : pack of tissue, a twoonie, a pen, nasal drops, Tylenol pills (adult) and hand sanitizer

I know this seems like a lot  but my diaper bag is relatively small and all of this fits! If you have space it’s great to toss in a t-shirt for each of the parents. In my case I tend to layer when I travel, so incase there’s a disaster I can always strip down! Happy travels peeps! Anyone have other items they like to include in their  baby’s travel bag?

I always carry a Microwave Steriliser Bag in my nappy bag. It takes up no room and is handy if you’re going away for a few days and don’t wan’t to lug the sometimes very large plastic sterilising container with you. You can use them around 20 times before they need to be discarded (you do need access to a microwave though) http://easybubs.com.au/

That’s a great addition! Especially when we stay at rental suites/apartments during our long travels! Love it. I’m going to pick some up! Thanks for stopping by!
