Flying Porter Airlines Toronto to Newark

porter Toronto to newarkWe’ve been silent and I apologize…we took a much needed holiday, but we’re back after five glorious days in New York City. We had a couple options on how to get to the big apple but we decided that flying Porter Toronto to Newark was our best bet. As you know, we love our Porter flights and who can say no to flying out of downtown Toronto, free Steam Whistle beer, wine and cookies? Not us!

We traveled with both kids and lucked out with a free seat next to me on the flight from Toronto to Newark. Coming back was a full flight but it’s only an hour and a  half journey so no biggie at all. Neither of them slept either way so no luck there! The part I was anxious about was gate checking our double stroller and let me telll you, NO ISSUES at all. It was a breeze. We also paid to check in our luggage each way but we traveled with one suitcase and got a deal during the boxing day sales so it wasn’t bad at all. As always we had a smooth experience over all.

Coming back Little Monkey decided she had to pee and navigating that tiny bathroom was a bit tough but we did it! Baby Boy had pooped but I let him sit in his mess until we got home (guilty as charged!). On our return journey there was a bit of a mix up with the gates at Newark and so we were enjoying the lounge facilities (it’s small but it’s there – along with cappuccinos and cookies) when someone came and told us that the gate was closing. PHEW we made it just in time and they apologized for the mix up and no one rushed us despite being the last to board. We gate checked our stroller and hand luggage and even brought the Phil & Teds travel crib on board (we did this both ways). Porter does allow families to pre-board and we did just that when we left Toronto.

Porter into New York CItyGetting to the Toronto airport is easy for us and we Uber-ed our way there early Thursday a.m. ( 8 a.m. flight) but wasn’t sure how difficult it would be from Newark into Manhattan. It was super easy and there were elevators until we got into Penn Station. On arrival into Newark you take the Airtran into the New Jersey transit system where you will buy a ticket ($5.50 per adult) and this will get you into Penn Station and from Penn into where ever you’re heading to – for us it was 71st street which also had an elevator (not all NYC subway stations had an elevator though). The entire journey takes about an hour depending on line ups and catching connections (they’re quite frequent though).

porter Toronto to newarkNYC was fab but we’re glad to be home after five busy days eating, drinking and exploring the city. Baby Boy and I both enjoyed the views from our seats! On arrival in Toronto we were informed that the elevator was broken but the Porter staff on hand generously took our stroller down for us once we took the kids out of it. It was a small gesture but given the amount of bags and trinkets we had, it saved the hubs an extra trip up and down and so we ended our vacation on a high note. We even took the free  shuttle into the city (double stroller and all). We have plenty of NYC tales to share but in the mean time be sure to check out our #MurphysDoNYC tweets!
