Apps & iNanny

Now that I’m working from home, my days are filled with meetings over Skype and constantly following up on the team and the Little Monkey. Clocking in 6 hours of meetings each day is no easy feat with a very mobile toddler and yet we figured out a way. Routine naps helps as well as the ever so trusty iNANNY iDAYCARE  iPAD . I know… I know her brains and eye sight will be a rotting and she should be learning all sorts of new and exciting things and not be in front of a screen. After her toys and a few books, the iPad is the only attention grabber that’s guaranteed to have her sitting in one place for an hour at a time (2.5 hours sometimes even!) so who am I to say no?

What does she do you ask? Well she Skypes every morning, ofcourse. She then has her many games and tunes that she rotates through. SO here’s her current favourites!

If you’re afraid of having your iPad smashed, this iGuy is just the thing you need! He comes in many colours and we were surprised that our green guy has a green appley scent to him! Baby friendly apps are a life saver and my only beef with some of them are the upgrade options that keep popping up. We don’t need little ones buying upgrades that cost $4 +!! It seems like the hubs tends to lean towards Fisher Price Apps mainly, especially as most of them are free. She plays these numerous times a day and luckily, the tunes haven’t thrown me on the deep end … yet.

Wheels on the Bus : This app has a bunch of options, including puzzles, memory (match two vehicle) and numbers (which set of cars is bigger) but the favourite portion is the song. The Little Monkey is absolutely mesmerized by the melody and the random surprises that pop up when you touch things.

Shapes and Colours : The name says it all. Interactive way of teaching the colours and the shapes, there’s also a keyboard function here and a cute peek -a-book puppy that entertains for long stretches!

Old MacDonald : Sure there’s a nice song with the animal sounds but best part is that this app asks them to click on each animal and in a British accent too. BONUS!

Giggle Gang : Catchy tune and just entertaining! The keyboard is also a nice function as it helps get them into “playing an instrument” early.

Where’s Puppy : Fun app to teach about body parts. Where’s puppy’s nose?

Baby Colour Smasher : I have this on my Android phone and it’s a brilliantly silent way to keep the little ones occupied , whilst waiting for the bi-monthly check up, the food to arrive or for the store clerk to run through those 100 items.  I would be lying if I said I didn’t play this game as much as she does! It’s great for hand eye coordination and reflexes, because you have to squish the paint drops before they slip off the screen. Much joy and pleasure!

What are some favourites at your place? I  think it’s time to get some new ones as most of these are 6 months + !

Little Fox Music Box is great! The kids can touch any character on the screen to make it move. Also Leo’s Pad is very cute with a story about a little Leonardo Da Vinci and Galileo and their inventions. Tapatune is like the Fisher Price shapes and colours piano but it uses little animals to guide the child to the right note – very cute :).

All these we’re free at the time I downloaded them.
