Clek Foonf Tokidoki Car Seat Review

luxury car seatWe recently received the 2014 Clek Foonf car seat for a review and after a month of using it we’ve got the inside scoop on what works and what doesn’t! I discovered Clek very recently and was surprised to learn that this is a Toronto based Canadian company who prides themselves on designing innovative products without sacrificing style or safety.  We’ve had the Clek in a couple vehicles including a convertible! Mind you it would only fit forward facing in the convertible as there wasn’t enough room for the rear facing option but it fits! We chose the tokidoki rebel design and love this Los Angeles designers’ nod to travel.

Disclosure : We received the car seat for review purposes, but as always, the opinions are totally mine!

Let’s get to the nitty gritty. We’ve got a detailed video review for you but here’s our top likes :

  • Extended ability to rear face – kids from 14 to 40 pounds can fit in this one rear facing (up to 65 pounds in forward facing)
  • Reinforced steel and magnesium sub-structure and additional foam padding in the headrest to keep little ones protected during a crash
  • Narrow width – it’s under 17 inches at the widest part! 3 seats side by side totally works!
  • GREENGUARD Select Certified fabric – easy clean up and permanent protection against stains, odour causing bacteria and spills
  • Ability to effortlessly install car seat in both, rear and forward position, using the UAS system
  • REACT™ Safety System protects your child much like the crumple zones in the cars we drive (click here to read more about it)
  • Reclines – yes even once full secured in the car
  • Approved for aircraft use
  • Fits in our Go-Go Babyz Travelmate
  • Fully recyclable, yes everything! For $25 they will even have UPS pick the boxed car seat from your home and recycle it for you
  • 9 year lifespan of car seat (most others are around the 6-8 year range)

tokidoki car seat Areas that didn’t work for us :

  • Weight – at around 38 pounds this is a heavy one and wouldn’t work for a travelling family
  • Additional attachments for rear facing position means many pieces (love the anti-rebound bar though!)
  • Re-threading required to switch from infant to toddler
  • Doesn’t work for newborns( child has to be able to sit unassisted and weigh atleast 14 pounds and be 25 inches tall)

Comfort, safety, style and convenience co-exist happily in the Clek Foonf and with the sleek design and unparalleled safety offerings this is the luxury car seat many will covet. Clek is a proud supporter of the Great Camp Adventure Walk and will donate 5% of your shop purchase towards Sick Kids if you buy through their site (where you can see some awesome installation videos too). The Clek Fllo is out in the market and that one looks like it may be the best bet for a travelling family. We’re fans of the Clek Foonf car seat and can definitely see car owning families looking for extra room in the back seat, owning  this one.

I am a little turned off by the weight of this seat especially as we often have to move seats around but the other features sound really nice and I love how this is a Canadian company supporting Sick Kids.

It sounds like a really good car seat! I love that it is up to date such that it’s OK for aircraft use – great for traveling families!
