Easy Baby Princess Leia Hat

easy to make princess leia hat for baby A friend of mine attended our Princess & Superheroes Birthday Bash with the cutest little costume for her baby girl and I knew we had to share this easy Baby Princess Leia hat. Andrea Janzen is a career coach at Pep Career Counselling and mom to two little ones. She swears she isn’t crafty but I find it hard to believe after I saw that Princess Leia costume she made for her baby girl! Below are the detailed instructions on how you can make a Princess Leia hat yourself if you’re feeling crafty and have an old t shirt lying around. A t-shirt. Yes.. that’s really all you need in addition to the needles and thread.

 What you need:

Old brown T-shirt
Scissors
Needle and Thread (sewing machine is optional – it will save some time but isn’t 100% necessary)
A hat that fits your child for a pattern

1) Place existing hat on top of brown t-shirt and cut around it.
2) Sew the hat – if you cut along the bottom of the t-shirt then you don’t need to hem it. With a sewing machine this can be done in about 2 minutes, but could also be done by hand if you don’t have a sewing machine.
3) Cut 6 long strips of t-shirt (about 2 inches in width)
4) Sew 3 strips together at the very end and braid them.
5) Sew the end of the braid together by hand to secure it.
6) Wrap the braid into a bun and sew (by hand) a few stitches through each braid on one side to secure it.
7) Repeat steps 4-6 for the second bun.
8) Sew the top and bottom of each bun to the sides of the hat to secure them.
