Eating out with baby – Brunching in Dakota Tavern

999107_656643559027_1089210487_nThis past weekend we finally stopped in at the Dakota Tavern for their Bluegrass brunch and absolutely loved it! As you know I love winning contests (who doesn’t?) and actually won brunch for two through the Dakota Tavern. We knew to avoid the rush brunch hour and strolled in for 1 p.m. which was perfect. The place was empty except for one other family and the band which was just fine for us. Note that there’s steps and lots of it to get down to the restaurant but there was a neat little spot for us to park our stroller at. There aren’t any highchairs or boosters but our My Little Seat comes handy yet again!

Who doesn’t love dancing right? Surely the grandparents with their two little grandkids would agree with me. The food was your typical greasy spoon items but I will admit that they got their scrambled eggs right. You’d be surprised at how many spots I’ve been to lately that have had rubbery or oily eggs splashed on the plate. So I was thrilled to have the perfect eggs on my plate along with fresh fruit, the best home fries we’ve had to date, sausages and fluffy blueberry pancakes presented to us. For $14 dollars each you get an unlimited platter of the food including orange juice (minute maid), coffee and tea. Basic but good. What you’re really paying for is a laid back vibe where you can kick back with the kids and honky tonk or rather… Bluegrass your way through a couple hours. The basementy tavern setup provides a cozy atmosphere where you forget that it’s daytime outside and that people are out and about. Given that this is a music venue come night time, it’s a great hideout spot for families during the day, especially if it’s a rainy day! The Bluegrass Brunch happens every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the servers are crazy baby friendly! If you’re looking for a simple brunchy breakfast done well this is your spot.
