A swanky throwback Saloon that prides itself on craft cocktails and fancy nibbles isn’t a spot you’d think of taking a baby to. Or your parents. However that’s exactly where we decided to go for our anniversary drinks and nibbles with the family – Weslodge Saloon. I loved the decor in there the first time I visited and loved them on this second visit as well, dark walls, throwback cabinetry and old photos adorning the walls. The animals mounted aren’t my cuppa tea but totally fitting with the rest of the pieces.
While the place doesn’t scream baby friendly, they have a highchair and the servers were very accommodating and having a prime spot by the kitchen meant that the kitchen staff were also entertaining the Little Monkey as we dined! Getting a spot by the kitchen is definitely a good choice not only for the additional entertainment but because of the booth side seating.
For the veggie lovers visiting, there are a few vegetarian dishes, they just might be a bit harder to find within the limited menu. Ask your server and they’ll point you in the right direction. The Pappardelle and Zucchini Flower was pretty good if I do say so myself!
The cocktails and nibbles are definitely worth a visit to Weslodge. My favourites include the Scotch Eggs with chorizo and tomato jam, Crispy Shishito Peppers and Chickpea Panelle(also a hit with the Little Monkey). I could eat four of each of these dishes and call it a day- would have been a delicious and filling meal! Ofcourse that’s not what we did, we also sampled the Milk Poached Veal, French Beans which had miso ginger and garlic chips, Salmon Tartar and Beef Tartar. Both tartars were quite good but it was the beef tartar with foie gras that got the rave reviews. I unfortunately was being a good preggo and didn’t have any.
I have sampled their cocktails before so I can definitely attest to how good they are. The family enjoyed the Alchemist (one of my faves! I am biased I supposed since I did work on the ABSOLUT brand), a Orange Spiced Old Fashioned and a Barrel Aged Negroni. They do indeed age their own cocktails which was a trend we started seeing about two years ago. I do love me a good scotch so the Chivalry is also one of my personal faves. As for me this time around it was a virgin margarita, read soda and lime!
At the end of the meal our server (who served me the last time a year ago!) was so charming that he said his mamma would yell at him if he didn’t go into the kitchen and clean up the Little Monkey’s diner tray before I rolled it up! How cute is that?

August 14, 2013 at 2:09 amHappy anniversary! I’m glad you had a great dinner ! Unfortunately maybe I just don’t get out much, but I don’t know what half those dishes are! 🙁 I should be more adventurous with my food.
