How Diapers and Wine Can Get You to South America!

Porter into New York CItyI don’t know about you, but in our household we buy a lot of diapers, fruits and wine. Given our love for travel, you know that I’m all about using points to help us get to the places on our must-travel to list.  As I’ve mentioned previously, AIR MILES is one of our favourite ways to collect points. I’ve come to learn that boring, everyday expenses, like baby items and carrots can add up and give you wings to travel when you shop smart at places like Metro, the LCBO and Toys R Us.

As with anything there are many ways to shop smart, so the hubs and I have a couple of cards we use together for maximum benefit. Flashing your AIR MILES Collector Card is fab, but it’s like throwing away good money when you don’t combo it with a card like the American Express AIR MILES Credit Card. Why earn one mile at a time when you could be earning twice on the same purchase? Good question, eh?

airmiles on wineAs you know, I’m always trying to come up with ways we can see the world. My logic is: “if I have to spend on the essentials, I may as well leverage those expenses in some way to get us travelling.”  I don’t just think about enjoying that one wine bottle on the shelf, I think of all the miles I will rack up when buying the bottles of Vino for my next girls’ night! My latest travel discovery is that all I need is 6000 AIR MILES if you’re travelling at low-season to get one person to South America AND BACK from Ontario!  You can bet your bottom dollar that I make each and every dollar spent on diapers and wine work harder for us by combining our AIR MILES Collector Card with our American Express AIR MILES Credit Card.

porter Toronto to newarkI’ve even done some math. I know, I know… I’m not the best when it comes to the numbers – that’s what the hubs is here for, right? There’s a whole suite of American Express AIR MILES Cards and ours, the American Express AIR MILES Reserve Credit Card offers us one AIR MILE for every $10 spent at select Sponsor stores. The American Express AIR MILES Reserve Credit Card offers 2,400 AIR MILES reward miles when you charge a total of $3,000 in purchases to your card within your first three months of card membership. This means that the expenses we charge to our card in one year and the sign-up bonus can get one of us back to our honeymoon spot, Buenos Aires! If we do this before Baby Boy turns two in October, we will only need to buy two tickets to get the four of us there, which makes travel a bit more affordable for us.

It’s like I said before, using the two cards together just makes sense without both it’s like a catcher without his mitt or a girls night without Vino, they’re just better together!

If you were able to collect enough AIR MILES from your everyday expenses, where would you fly off to?

Find out why if you only have an AIRMILES card, you’re seeing only half the picture (and half the points).

That’s the best way, when the money you have to spend gets you something good.
I hope you do get to go on your trip.

Thanks Nicole! It’s all about shopping smart and collecting those Air Miles the best way I can.
