Who’s afraid of colour?

I’ve invited the lovely blogger behind VivaLaMakeupTV to be my first guest blogger! What’s even better is that we’ve teamed up to bring you Baby&Life’s first ever giveaway! There’s very few beauty regiments that I follow… I wear make up daily (okay not great for the skin…)  and I  love love love having my nails look pretty. Having my nails done (unfortunately I don’t get a professional mani and pedi as often as I  should) makes me feel ‘put together’. Now that the Little Monkey has entered the pictures I tend to wait till she’s in bed before I embark on my nail art sprees. Atleast once a week you will find me doing my nails in front of the telly.

I tend to only experiment with colours when there’s a special occasion (Halloween, St. Patty’s e.t.c) and wear a light pink year long on my hands and hot pink on my toes. A relatively safe palate that was practical and acceptable during my working girl days. However now that I’m on maternity leave I’m  trying my best to experiment with fun colours. Who’s afraid of colour? Not I!  Recently I  entered a contest and won (surprise!) a whole whack of colours. Since I live in a tiny condo and don’t have much space for these I thought I would share 8 of these with you fabulous readers! This giveaway is open to all readers worldwide.

Often times people shy away from bold colour and nail polish allows individuals to experiment with colours they don’t often tend to wear. It’s a great way to keep things trendy without committing too much into it as it is relatively inexpensive and the large variety of shades mean endless possibilities. This Spring and Summer calls for bright colours like neons and glitters and even pastels, which is my personal favourite. In the post, I show you guys some great options to stay on trend as well as safer options for those who prefer to keep it safe.

If you are still a little shy of bold colours, try the pastel trend. Shades like light peaches ( Essie A Crewed Interest), light blues or yellow can help you ease into the the trend without making a complete change. It’s subtle, feminine and delicate and is very appropriate for any time of the year, especially in the summer and spring. If those colours scare you too, then pink is the all around best colour to go with. The shade can be as light (like the one in the picture – Nicole by Opi Up & Kim-ming Pink) or as bright and bold as you want. It is safe for the work place and is great all around hue although, I think, you should really give pastels a chance.

Neons are another hot trend this season both for apparel and nails. On nails, however, it’s less intimidating and can really allow you to go crazy with the endless hues on the market. Try a really bright and bold teal like the Illasmaqua nail varnish in Nomad. It’s bright enough to make a statement but isn’t too crazy that it becomes a little uncomfortable to wear.

Another great trend that’s been floating around for the past few months is glitter. Now glitter comes in a huge array of colours. They give dimension to the nails unlike a cream colour and is really great for night time. The silver glitter shown on my ring finger is Nicole by Opi’s Follow Me on Glitter, which is a multidimensional colour with flecks of pink, green and blue. If glitter is too much for you, you can always tone down its appearance by focusing only on the ring finger and keeping the other nails clean and simple. Try pairing a pale blue cream on the other fingers like Essie’s Borrowed and Blue.
 
Lastly, when all else fails you can never go wrong with a great red polish. It’s perfect for everyday of the year and is classic and bold. The one on my pinky is Nicole by Opi’s Kourt is Ready for a Pedi.
