Speroway : International children’s charity and contest

As some of you are aware each year I participate in a few child focused charitable events and usually I donate, encourage my  network to donate and then participate in  some sort of physical activity as well. However this year, being on  maternity leave and all, I figured I’d try to contribute  in  a different manner, mainly by bringing awareness to charities and charitable events that might go unnoticed. In the past I’ve written about the Dogs with heart fundraiser, Top 10 event and ofcourse Movember. Recently the wonderful world of Twitter introduced me to Speroway, an international not for profit relief organization that provides food, medicine and education to children and their families in Canada and around the world. They were formerly known as Feed the Children Canada and changed their name mainly to establish themselves as an independent relief and and development agency, more details can be found here.

I found the name Speroway to be quite intriguing. According to their website, the “unique name combines Spero, the Latin word for “hope”, with way, representing the path they follow. Pronounced spare-o-way, it represents a hopeful way forward, both for the organization and the people they assist.” These good folk, having re-branded themselves, are now raising awareness for the wonderful work they are doing in Haiti.  Last fall they upgraded dental and medical clinics and this past April the team found a property (in an orphanage) that would be the perfect location for a medical clinic. Building plans are ready for execution and they are now looking for donations (every bit helps!) and to spread the word about the exciting project. If you are looking to connect with Speroway, I found their Facebook page to be engaging and  and I love that their blog updates us on the various projects and their progress. Great way for us to see our donations at work, even if we can’t be there in person to see the results.

To raise awareness of  Speroway’s work and the building of the medical clinic in Haiti for orphans they are running a contest. You can enter here for a chance to win a grand prize including a New iPad 2012 HD, a day for two to the spa,and gift packages from Mabel’s Labels. You do not HAVE to donate to enter the contest…but you know.. donating is good.
