The Art of Living – Chivas1801

I loved the name of this event and given that Chivas 18 is one of the things I craved the most during my pregnancy (paired with Salmon Sashimi, if you must know!), I knew I had to be at the exclusive annual event hosted by Chivas Regal. Let’s not forget that back in the day I used to work on the brand and it’s one of those brands that I will stay true to. Getting on the guest list was no easy feat but given that my brother had an invite he was unable to use, the hubs and I gladly took his spot.

The Gardner Museum is a gorgeous venue and despite it being a cold cold cold Thursday, throngs of fashionable people who were on the coveted guest list made their way to immerse themselves in all facets of the true Chivas lifestyle. For me it was a great chance to connect with co-workers who I hadn’t been able to say goodbye to and to spend an evening with the hubs sans baby. In addition there were quite a few Twitter personalities that I was able to connect with.  Unfortunately for me – I’m not up with my who’s who but I can tell you that the crowd was gorgeous (both young and old were out!) and as my husband put it ever so eloquently- I’m not sure if I’ve met them before or if I’ve seen them on Tv. Yes- it was that kinda crowd!

Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning was spinning his top party records and set the right tempo for the evening. To top off,  K-OS performed around 8 p.m.  with us front row and centre for it. He kept us well entertained, especially when he rapped about someone texting on their phone (ssshh…  I actually know who that was!.. let’s just say, she was working.) Sipping on Chivas 18 on the rocks (two rocks please), soaking in the entertainment and the crowd, I realized that guests were having a great time. Shortly after the set people started wandering upstairs to see what else awaited the chivalrous crowd.

Since I wasn’t able to nab any food that was passing us by downstairs I was lured to climb the three flights of stairs (panting – I was in heels…and out of shape) in the hopes of food. We were greeted by cigar girls (and line ups), a deconstructed Chivas 18 tasting, platters of food and a Jamie Kennedy Station where the man was dishing out some fine braised beef ribs that melted in your mouth, on  a bed of  mashed yams with a drizzle of some horseradish deliciousness. The ten minute wait was TOTALLY worth it!

I loved the little perfume station that allowed us to choose our own base scent and then mix in an over tone. Mine… was a sensual base with some sexy on the top. No surprise right? HAH! The GotStyle and Mankind folks were on hand to custom measure and clean up the handsomely dressed gents in the crowd.  While most guests continued to hob knob, some were running after celebrities to get their pictures taken. Between the activity stations, the interesting crowd (people watching at its best!!), the splattering of art here and there and the fine Scotch, no one could claim boredom. It was a happening night and everyone was in great spirits.

The hubs and I enjoyed our Chivas Regal Rob Roys and capped the night with a dram of the decadent and nutty Chivas 25 year old. While many of us departed around 10ish (after a long wait at coat check), the party was just starting and continued into the night. Many tales of dancing with K-OS came buzzing my way the next day!

Be sure to follow Chivas on Twitter and Facebook to get on the list for the next posh event!
