Cruising with the 2014 Hybrid Lincoln MKZ

Lincoln MKZ 2014Every once in a while you notice people looking at you… that happened to us each and every time we were cruising around in the 2014 hybrid Lincoln MKZ. Which then clued us in.. they weren’t checking us out, they were ogling at our car. FINE.This summer we had the pleasure of test driving Ford`s 2014 Lincoln MKZ a couple times. First up was during our kid-less Stratford getaway and the second was during our recent trip to Niagara U.S.A. Two very different trips but the same level or comfortable luxury.

The first time around we received a White Platinum version and second time around it was a Tuxedo Black. Black and white! Which is why you will see a couple different colours in our video below. As you know I’m not into the techie stuff when it comes to cars. I’m more about the luxury and comfort whilst looking swanky and hence, this is your reminder – if you’re looking for a technical review, you may have to look elsewhere.

Disclosure : We received complimentary use of the vehicle but as always, opinions are totally mine!

First up all eyes are always on this car. During our Stratford travels one guy even walked up to ask us about the car. The longing look as he eyeballed the Lincoln MKZ was quite funny. I think we convinced him that this is the baby he’s been waiting for. The Lincoln MKZ is a beauty, no doubt, but what really makes this one of our favourites to travel in is the fact that you get amazing mileage with the hybrid. We travelled from Toronto to Niagara U.S.A, toured around for two days and returned back to Toronto and only spent $40 in gas. We had quite a bit of city driving but  they mean business when they say the hybrid gets you 50 MPG in the city and 47 MPG on the highway. This truly impressed us.

The kids’ car seats fit well at the back, though keep in mind that rear facing options means less leg room for the front passenger. I got to recline comfortably and nap during our Stratford travels but for Niagara Falls I didn’t have the chance to recline as we had the Diono (which takes up quite a bit of room in the rear facing position compared to the Evenflo Symphony). Little Monkey loved the sunroof, especially at night when the city girl was able to see the stars out at night during our travels. She also enjoyed the fact that there was plenty of luggage space and she was able to bring as much gear as her little heart desired. We were pleased that we not only fit our luggage and UPPA baby stroller  but also 50 bottles of beer. Yes.. 50. Don’t judge. We like to stock up on craft brews from our travels 😉

Lincoln MKZThe 2014 Lincoln MKZ fully loaded option comes with all the bells and whistles, some which are now quite mainstream – here’s looking at your rear camera, built in GPS and USB ports (They also have a full outlet in the Lincoln!). But the MKZ has so much more! The hubs obviously loved the fabulous mileage but he was surprised by the heated steering wheel! Yes, not only are the seats heated but the wheel as well. I can imagine how nice that must feel when you get in during the cold winter months. The other feature that pleasantly surprised him was how the vehicle would detect traffic when in cruise control mode. This was the driver-activated Adaptive Cruise Control which can detect traffic slowing ahead and automatically slow down your car to maintain the distance you have set. When traffic has cleared, your car resumes at the preset speed. The Lincoln MKZ can also alert you if it senses a potential collision with the car in front of you. It is also equipped with available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive which constantly monitors road conditions and automatically distributes engine torque to the wheels to help navigate all weather conditions.

The future is here folks! It pretty much drives itself but gives you the powerful feel of controlling the wheels. The fact that we ended on the road twice in two months in the same car means we thoroughly enjoyed and felt safe in the 2014 Hybrid Lincoln MKZ. If you’re looking for a comfortable luxury hybrid, this baby may just be the option for your family. The fully loaded option comes with all the luxuries but without a crazy premium price tag. It also comes with quite a few hoots and catcalls 😉

What a spiffy car. I’m intrigued by the heated steering wheel. My fingers get so cold in the winter.
