Are you looking for some toddler and baby friendly vegetable juice recipes? No masking the veggies with fruits because she eats way too many fruits as it is. We’ve hit the toddler stage where eating veggies are a no go and while I’ve been sneaking in veggies in juice for a while I have no time for the juicer anymore . Cleaning it up and dealing with the pulp is a royal pain in the @$$! Which is why I’ve started blending things and it works for both, Little Monkey and Baby Boy. Since we’re in the steaming and puree stage for Baby Boy I’m sneaking in all sorts of veggies! Below are some of our popular combos right now and you have the chance the win one of two Hamilton Beach MultiBlend Blenders (Canadians only)! You need a good blender for these drinks so that you have minimal pulp. If you do end up with pulp or ‘stringy bits’, strain the juice using a tea strainer before you pour it into their sippy cups. That way you’ll avoid all talk of ‘there’s yucky stuff in my cup’ or ‘my cup is not working! It’s stuck’.
Disclosure : Hamilton Beach provided the blenders for the giveaway but as always, opinions are totally mine!
The combos below work well for pureed meals for the baby and diluting it with water makes juice for the toddler! Some days I sneak half of it for Baby Boy’s lunch by adding in some quinoa for texture. Little Monkey gets the juice version and she doesn’t complain because of the sweetness from the sweeter veggies masks the bitter greens. We’ve just started giving ‘juice’ to Baby Boy so he’s getting a taste of these in liquid form as well. Please note that if you blend as soon as you steam, the drink may still be warm. Add cold water if you plan to serve immediately.
Beets, Spinach and Sweet potato : Steam one beet, two large stalks of spinach and half a sweet potato. Blend and then dilute with water to your liking. I usually add two cups of water to this concoction.
Carrots, Kale and Peas : Steam a handful of baby carrots, a cup of kale and a cup of peas. Blend with a cup of water. Peas are the hardest to puree since the skins can never be fully pureed so this is one I always have to strain.
Butternut Squash, Celery and Cabbage : Steam a large chunk of the squash (about 5 inches in diameter), two stalks of celery and three large cabbage leaves before blending with two cups of water. I’ve had some batches where the celery completely blends but then there are days where you can see a bunch of strings floating around. If you see that definitely strain before giving it to the little ones.
Cucumber, Red Bell Pepper and Pumpkin : Steam a large chunk of pumpkin ( about the size of your palm) and half way through add a bell pepper (no seeds) and large cucumber. These two don’t need to be steamed for long (probably about ten minutes). Blend with two cups of water.
Note that you can always add in some gin, vodka or rum to these recipes to take them up a notch for the adults and with or without these additions, they freeze nicely for some popsicles to cool you down this summer.
You may also enjoy these juice combos we shared when Little Monkey was 8 months!
Alright here’s the fun part! Two winners will each win one of these Hamilton Beach MultiBlend Blenders! Go for it!

July 30, 2014 at 1:48 pmWe’re big fans of smoothies in our house — but our old blender just can’t handle them any more. I’m curious about integrating more veggies into our drinks and soups…and whether a more-powerful blender will allow us to do this.

August 13, 2014 at 9:58 amHaving begun my weight loss journey (yes, I’m calling it the most corny thing possible) I am drawn to smoothies. I love the fact that you can throw any vegetables you want in there and their taste will be masked by the fruit ingredients. I personally love to put a banana in and some berries and then add as much spinach in there as will fit. The down side? My blender, though it cost a hundred dollars, sucks. I mean it cannot blend things on its own. If I’m adding seeds or oats to my smoothie I have to pulverize them in my food processor first – not exactly the quickest go-to breakfast. Then there’s the fact that while I can’t taste vegetables like spinach once there in there (did I mention I hate vegetables?) the fact that my blender does not blend well means that I still have the texture of it as it ends up as tiny hunks of green. Try sucking that up a straw – it’s a work out in and of itself. My blender is more of a stirrer, it can mix my smoothie ingredients but it can’t actually make a smoothie smooth, they’re more of a soup. Needless to say I am crossing my fingers that I can win this blender, I’ve heard such great things about it – thanks for offering this giveaway!!

August 16, 2014 at 3:38 pmI don’t have a favourite. I’m not a fan of vegetable juice, but as long as the juice tastes like fruit I’m good, so I guess I would choose a mild vegetable with a strong fruit like orange or berries.
