On The Hunt for AIR MILES with American Express

This post is part of the YummyMummyClub.ca  and Amex Bank of Canada #AIRMILES #BetterTogether sponsored program. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. This post reflects my personal opinion about the information provided by the sponsors.

Air Mile and Amex Last month, I shared how I plan on using our everyday expenses to get my family travelling and this month, I want to let you in on some of our secrets when it comes to shopping smart with our AIR MILES Collector Card and our American Express AIR MILES Credit Card—but it’s just between you and I, okay?

Look around your favourite shopping spots and you’ll soon realize how many of them offer you the chance to collect AIR MILES. From supermarkets like Metro and pharmacies like Rexall to clothing stores like The Children’s Place, they all allow you to earn  AIR MILES which can be swapped for travel perks or cash rewards. We even get AIR MILES from our home insurance company Johnson. Don’t tell them this but I’m getting double what they think I’m earning!  I pay for all of these with my American Express AIR MILES Credit Card which gives me additional AIR MILES on top of the extra bonus offers at each of the stores. SHH! I’m pretty much stealing AIR MILES!

air miles collection It might be funny to watch us shop but I’d like to think that many families shop the way we do. The hubs and I walk the aisles to see what the featured bonus AIR MILES products are and then plan our weekly menu around those products. It’s like our own little AIR MILES hunt every time we do our weekly grocery spree. If you see me walking out with a cart full of Mexican taco kits… you know they were a bonus offer that week! Of course, you need to remember that on top of those bonus AIR MILES we receive, we also get additional miles by paying for those products with our American Express AIR MILES Credit Card. I’ll gladly eat Mexican every day if it means I can fly to my favourite empanada joint in Argentina faster.

I’ll pretty much do anything to get a few extra AIR MILES, yes, this even includes cooking with broccoli if it’s on feature! Anyone have any recipes to share? We’ve analyzed our AIR MILES reports and came to the conclusion that Metro, the LCBO and our home insurance company earns us the most AIR MILES. However, with Baby Boy’s wardrobe constantly in need of an upgrade and with quite a few pieces from The Children’s Place, I have a feeling that our clothing budget will soon be helping us to travel as well. Like I need more excuses to go shopping! I have even started buying gifts from Toys R’ US for the many kiddy parties we have to attend…do you know why? YUP! You got it! They give AIR MILES there as well! Pretty much 80% of the places we shop at offer AIR MILES rewards and we even notice them during our travels!

If you’re only earning with the AIR MILES Collectore Card, you’re only enjoying half the rewards so I recommend looking at the American Express and AIR MILES Credit Cards to get the most out of your shopping. If you can sneak in a few extra miles, why don’t you? It’s a no brainer!

Which AIR MILES partner gets your family the most bang for your buck?

Milk and cookies, hanging out with your BFF. There are some things that are #BetterTogether – like #AIRMILES and @AmexCanada.

Find out why if you only have an AIRMILES card, you’re seeing only half the picture (and half the points).

Then learn how your summer entertaining can get you closer to that trip you’ve been dreaming of.
