One of the genes that my mom has passed on to the kids is the “butter loving” gene. Honestly, Little Monkey is happy to eat chunks of butter with almost anything and I’ve also recently learned that the hubs grew up thinking that butter was a spice! He and his sisters used to douse rice and pasta in butter and were happy to eat it just like that. While I do love the taste of creamy butter, I’m making a conscious decision to cut back on my butter consumption despite it being a good source of healthy saturated fats and yes you’ll find me eating leftovers from Little Monkey and Baby Boy’s plates, mainly for the butter!
Disclosure : I am part of the Gay Lea Ambassador Campaign and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog, as always, are totally mine!
I recently came across the Gay Lea Spreadables range and was curious to see what it was all about. Gay Lea’s Spreadables Butter takes traditional creamery butter and adds unsaturated canola oil to make it spreadable. Given the summer heat, our butter is always in the fridge to avoid it turning into liquid and then Little Monkey yells and throws a tantrum when the butter is too hard for her to spread on her food. This is why I LOVE the idea of spreadables – we get to enjoy the delicious taste of butter right out of the fridge!
One thing I must point out is that the Gay Lea Spreadables range comes in regular, Light and even a Cinnamon & Brown Sugar combo (that’s great on baked goods especially!). There’s no preservatives added and it’s a great source of Omega 3. Given that my kids are still on the skinnier side, we’ve been stocking up on the Regular Spreadables butter.
While I was on the Juice Cleanse I was extremely lazy on the cooking front and as you can see above, the kids mostly ate Spinach pasta with a healthy dollop of Spreadables Butter.
Another one of their favourite summertime “treats” is corn and while I know there’s lots of research out there stating how unhealthy corn is… I can’t deprive them of this juicy juicy deliciousness and rolling it in butter is the best way to consume corn. So delicious and SO EASY!!
As I mentioned earlier, my mom is a butter LOVER! At her B&B she’s always baking amazing goodies and every time she visits us, the kids insist on her bringing some of her famous croissants! No prizes for guessing what Little Monkey insists on spreading on her croissant! I decided to treat myself and enjoyed one with the Spreadables Cinnamon & Brown Sugar and well…let me tell you, it was Ah-Mazing!

December 29, 2016 at 2:16 pmI have never seen the Cinnamon, Brown Sugar spreadable. Although I have to admit I have not looked for it but that will change. Cinnamon, brown sugar reminds me of my youth. That was a treat on toast we were given. I can’t wait to try it out. Hopefully I can pace myself with it 🙂
