Current Netflix Loves #Streamteam

It has officially been a week since my last day at the corporate gig and so we spent March Break at my parent’s Niagara B&B where we just lounged and did barely anything all day long. One of my favourite things to do at my parents’ place is to takeover the Mediterranean room, climb into the comfy bed and snuggle under the thick blankets with Netflix on. Once the kids and my dad went to bed, the hubs and I ventured upstairs to catch up on some of the shows we’d been slacking on.

Disclosure : We’re part of the Netflix Streamteam and receive special perks as part of our association but, as always, opinions are TOTALLY ours!

Recently Netflix released some interesting findings about “Netflix Cheating!” which they defined as watching a TV show ahead of your significant other and 37% of Canadian streaming couples are apparently watching behind each other’s backs! Crazy eh?  While 76% of Canucks don’t plan to cheat, they say “the shows are just so good we can’t stop bingeing.” Well, I’m here to tell you that the hubs and I definitely don’t Netflix Cheat on the shows we watch together, though there have been times that he starts watching something he thinks I won’t like and then I get totally hooked (recent one being Iron Fist!).

It has indeed been a while since I shared our current Netflix faves (last time we told you about Luke Cage, Stranger Things) so I thought I’d highlight some of the ones we’ve either just completed or have just started and already ABSOLUTELY loving them.

Riverdale : Archie and the gang are back but forget the goofy characters because there’s a lot of dark mysteries and sinister relationship at play. Even Jughead is serious!

Jane the Virgin : This is PERFECT for those nights when you just want to watch something light and funny… be careful though, you’ll start hearing a telenovela (Latin American soap opera) voice in your head soon enough!

Love : Took me a while to get around to liking this one but I’m starting to appreciate the awkwardness of the whole situation. Definitely one to watch if you like quirky dorky characters who eventually remind you of yourself or your friends!

Black Mirror : Each episode is new and looks at a sci-fi future where technology has evolved, sometimes in the most unfortunate ways. It’s a great look at how we could lose the personal side of ourselves as technology develops.

iZombie : We watched this one ages ago and it has just come to Netflix so thought I’d highlight it. I’m not one for gore (and hence couldn’t get through Santa Clara Diet) but I can totally deal with a brain eating “normal vampire” who works in a coroner’s office and helps solve mysterious murders.

The OA : Took me a while to get around to watching this one but this series with science fiction, supernatural, and fantasy elements mixed in draws you into finding out what happened to the lead character Prairie and has you pulled to her side despite all reasoning pointing elsewhere.

Iron Fist : Just started watching this and I’m already routing for the good guy to win! Critics have given this a negative review but I think the verdict is still out as we venture into episode 3.

So there you go, 7 shows worth your while if you’ve enjoyed our previous Netflix suggestions! As always, do share what you’re watching with us as well. We also have Anthony Bordain on queue as we prep to eat our way through Spain  this spring and summer. By the way, if you’re looking for something to watch with the kids, Julie’s Greenroom is worth looking at as it does have one of my faves (Julie Andrews a.k.a Maria) and she takes puppets and kids through the art of putting on a production. Little Monkey will love it, I know!

I’m watching an Australian series at the moment Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries which I’m finding amusing – perhaps because one of my daughters lives in Australia. The Crown was another series on Netflix that I’ve watched and I loved that one.
