Eating out with Baby | Indie Ale House

Indie ale house toronto, indie ale house with babyThis has been a long overdue review and I figured if I don’t do this now, I’d be doing everyone a disservice! I was waiting to go in with a good camera to picture how delicious the food is, but every visit has been a bit impromptu and so you’ll have to deal with my greasy finger smudged phone pictures instead. At the end of the day… dining at Indie Ale House with kids is totally approved!

The hubs had been raving about the brew house for a good while and we finally made our first visit here after a Niagara Falls trip. It was a busy Saturday evening and yet, they welcomed Baby Boy and Little Monkey and brought out a high chair for us as well. The laid back, yet upbeat vibe is exactly what we needed that evening as we chatted about soaring high over Niagara Falls in a helicopter. Since that visit in May we’ve been back two more times. Once with the kids and my mom and then another during my birthday beer crawl. Just writing this post is making me itch for a return!

When you think of brew pubs you know you’re guaranteed good suds and Indie Ale House is no exception. These guys have a stellar list of craft beers and most of them are seasonal or one off offerings. Their dark beers are on my favourite list. Their samplers are a great way to taste through their many beers and they have a retail store attached to the restaurant, should you wish to buy some glassware, posters, T shirts or growlers.

Indie Ale House with kids, kids at indie ale houseAs you sit and gaze at the decor, the tin ceiling, exposed brick and many wood pieces you can’t help but look at neighbouring tables to figure out what to order. I’ve been here a couple times and still order the same thing…another reason I was delaying this post. I need to sample more of their menu!!

My favouite, hands down, is their Spiced Maple Liquorice wings. Sounds weird but is absolutely fantastic. I can NEVER visit without ordering one of this dish. They also have Papaya Habanero (also good!) and eperoncini, parm & sage (sounds good but haven’t tried it yet). They do wings really well here. That’s for sure.

indie ale house2Little Monkey’s favourite is the truffle popcorn pail.Yes… pail. It’s as tall as her and only $5 for  truffle? Another dish we always get.I’m so curious to try their butter chicken popcorn the next time. I’ve also had their mac n cheese and sampled their pizzas. Nothing hits the spot as much as the wings but the hubs and quite a few of our friends are fans of the pizza. As is Baby Boy! He was 9 months during our second visit and he polished off a slice of the pizza all by himself.

Located in the Junction, Indie Ale House is a bit of a trek out of the downtown core but one that is definitely worth the journey! I’ve seen quite a few families here and there’s a few booths as well. I would keep the stroller away unless absolutely necessary. I’m off to plan my next visit here!

It looks like the perfect place to go with friends, and not bad for babies too. Now you’re making me hungry and I’m too far away. Maybe someday.
