Festive 2013 Events in Toronto : Kids, Toddlers and Babies

IMG_0784Since I manage to find out about fun happenings in the lovely city of Toronto I’ve decided to post an updated list of events for the most festive month this year. Whether you’re visiting Toronto or live here there’s plenty for families to do in the downtown area and most events are free to attend. If we’ve attended the event previously I’ve tagged a link to the post so you can get some tips on how best to the event with a kid in tow. And as always, if there’s others you’re aware of please do let me know through the comments sections and I’ll be sure to add it to the list. Who’s excited for the holiday season? HO HO HO to you too!

November & December

Ice, Wine & Dine : On November 22nd from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. the cute little foodie street gets transformed for a mini street party. All the fab restaurants will each offer nibbles for $5 or less, there’s entertainment and based on last year’s experience… don’t be surprised if your toddler wants to dance all night long! It’s never over crowded which is why I love popping by here. Click here to see the dishes on offer!

KidzFest : On November 23rd from 11 a. m to 5 p.m. Yonge-Dundas Square, the hub of the city, gets transformed into a kiddie paradise. Arts and crafts stations, appearances from My Little Pony, The WotWots, Rapunzel and many more… including Santa! Click here to see the schedule.

SWEA Toronto Christmas Festival : On November 23rd and 24th from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. you can pretend that you’re in Sweden at the York Quay, Harbourfront Centre. From traditional Swedish Christmas carols and folk dancing to arts and crafts, you and your family can stroll along getting into the festive mood. This festival in it’s 32nd year is a great spot to pick up some unique Christmas gifts for loved ones. If you’re feeling adventurous pop by the Natrel Rink and get your skate on after. Eat a pepparkakor for me will ya?

Lowe’s Toronto Christmas Market : From November 29th to December 15th Toronto gets a dose of a traditional European Christmas Market. By far one of my favorite ways to get in the holiday spirit for kids and adults! Plenty of activities for kids including storytime with Santa, Singing with Elves, Meet and Greet with Santa, Ferris Wheels and a Merry-go-Round. Oh and adults never fear.. in true European tradition there’s  beer gardens and plenty of cute food stalls. Oh there’s even photo opps for your pets. Bundle up and plan to spend a couple hours here easily! Click here to get more details. Fort

York Frost Fair : On December 8th and 9th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. explore the charm of an 18th and 19th century Christmas Market. Merchants in period attire will entice and help you get your shopping list completed with arts and crafts inspired from the bygone years. Warm yourself by the bonfire, watch a battalion and try your hand at some crafts. Food, entertainment, shopping and games are all on offer 18th century style with regular admission (tickets needed for this one). Click here for more details.

Santa’s Log Cabin : From November 29th to December 23rd you and your kid can visit Santa’s Log Cabin, see some toys being made, have Santa read a story and take a picture with him FOR FREE! Last year we went to Storytime with Santa and LOVED it.. read all about it here. This year we’re excited to check this out. As I write this I got an online appointment for Dec 23rd but there are community Fridays when reservations aren’t required. Click here for more details.

One of Kind Christmas Show : From November 28 to December 8th you can get some unique gifts for those on your nice list at this family friendly show taking place at the Direct Energy Centre. We went last year (click here for the review) and whilst it was busy on the weekend there was plenty of stroller access. They even have free babysitting on site for those 2 and above! Diaper change and nursing facilities are also on site. Click here for more details.

The Christmas Story : A tradition since 1938 you can watch an hour long Nativity enactment at The Church of the Holy Trinity right by the Eaton Centre on the following days – December 6-8, 13-15, 20-22.  IMG_0880
