Frozen Niagara Falls

IMG_20150227_132513 (Custom)Having heard rumblings about how Niagara Falls was frozen over we knew we had to visit one of our favourite local getaway spots. We hopped in our  loaner Lincoln MKC 2015 with the kids and took a winter road trip to Niagara Falls. Our  drive to and from Niagara Falls was a smooth and quiet one. The kids fell asleep as soon as we got on the highway and the hubs and I were able to enjoy some peace and quiet on our journey.

With my tushie warm in the heated seats I managed to sneak in some work while the hubs drove us around. The Lincoln MKC hugged the roads nicely and despite it being winter we were cozy inside. Space wise the four of us were comfortable but despite having two narrow car seats there was no place for a 3rd person at the back. We found the trunk to have enough space for a suitcase and the stroller and would work well for quick trip with a fair amount of gear (especially for a crossover). This is one pretty vehicle I must admit. I loved the  Ruby Red colour and the front grills. Thanks Ford Canada for getting us out of the downtown core and on the road exploring!

Our hotel room overlooked the falls so we got to see the fully frozen U.S falls as well as the semi frozen Canadian side. It truly amazed me how boulders of ice were seen in the U.S side. Yes I know that the water is still flowing underneath but just LOOK at those! How pretty are they?

Given the strength of the water flow on the Canadian side, it is only semi frozen here. It’s pretty neat to see the sheets of ice with water flowing between them. Having seen the frozen falls at night and during the day time, I found the day time to be the prettiest. It’s also the only time you can actually see the details in the ice.

IMG_20150227_165653 (Custom)As always we kept seeing rainbows over Niagara Falls. Even in its frozen state there’s rainbows here. As we cruised along the strip we noticed that many were parking by the side of the road to snap some pictures. That Sunday was a busy one and there were barely any spots available so the hubs drove around (another excuse to be behind the MKC wheels!) while I hopped out to take some pictures on that bright sun shinny day. Given our recent temperatures there’s a prediction that you can see the frozen falls up to early May. If you have the chance it’s definitely worth seeing. Hop in that car and take a cruise over to Niagara Falls to see the true meaning of Frozen!

Can’t get enough of seeing rainbows over the falls. Amazing that happens even when they’re frozen.
