Eating out with Baby | Lobster Pound and Moore

IMG_20140708_183900 (Custom) The Lobster Pound sounds like a very common spot and when my sister recommended that we swing by for dinner (her favourite restaurant) I was a bit skeptical. She turned out to be absolutely right in dragging us there as we had an amazing time and most definitely a must visit if you’re ever in the area of Sydney, Nova Scotia. Getting reservations can be tough but try chatting with the owner and mention that you’re visiting from out of town and he’ll do his best to squeeze you in. They pride themselves in providing quality meals without rushing their guests and so only have two seatings available each evening. We manged to score a table for our group of six adults and two kids one week day evening (yes they’re busy on week days too!) and celebrated an early birthday for the Father in love. When my sister called to make the reservations she was told that there’s no kids menu and almost gave us an anti-baby vibe. So clearly we didn’t expect smiling faces or high chairs (brought in our own little chair for Baby Boy).

IMG_20140728_220535 (Custom)On arrival we were warmly welcomed with a bistro meets chic beach hut vibe and our table awaited us. The space is decorated quite well with wood and natural elements-We loved that they had shadow boxes housing pasta and sea shells! Definitely stealing that idea from them. They even oo-ed and aah-ed at Baby Boy and Little Monkey! Surprised?

As we ordered our starters and mains our server informed us that we had ordered WAY too much food. That has never happened to us before so we told her not to worry… there’s always a doggy bag right? I apologize for the poor pictures (definitely does not capture the food porn worthiness of the meal) but I just clicked a few on my phone and didn’t have the good camera on me. I need a new phone -yes I know.

IMG_20140708_190325 (Custom)As our plates started coming out we realized how amazing the menu was and yes it’s fairly small but there’s something for everyone. The menu does change often, to reflect the produce available so be ready to be dazzled with something new each time you visit. Little Monkey was a huge fan of the Calamari and the Seafood Chowder here and I enjoyed a Carpaccio for my starter and the Lobster Ravioli for my mains and was shocked that I got a lobster tail as well! I kid you not… half way through our meal the chef comes out with a plate of veggies and apples laid out ever so nicely. Check it out! Sweetest gesture and from a place who said they weren’t kid friendly. Go figure!

IMG_20140708_190106 (Custom)Baby Boy devoured some lobster from my plate and chicken from his uncle’s plate before proceeding to polish off a piece of apple from the swan. As we waited on our dessert (Creme Brule and Chocolate Cake), the chef came out with the biggest lobster claw we’ve ever seen. He thought Little Monkey would like to touch it.. she wasn’t impressed but we were! He also had a surprise for me… a bag of the chocolate cake!

IMG_20140728_220433 (Custom) The Lobster Pound and Moore closes between December and February but if you plan a visit outside of those months, make it a point to dine here. Also the place is located right by the water, which means that if you the kid needs a walk you can quickly step out for some fresh air. The food and friendly service makes this my top recommendation in Sydney! P.S – aren’t those swan “doggy bags”   cute?

That is an enormous lobster claw. You’re making me so hungry for seafood with all your restaurant posts.

      Hi Kris

I got in touch with the owner and he has confirmed that kids are still welcomed. From what I saw on their facebook page it looks like there may have been a crying baby. I don’t know the full details but I’ve said this many times and I’ll say it again… if your kid is crying, promptly walk them out to finish the cryfest outside. I’m assuming that there may have been a crying situation and a few flared tempers. I plan to make a visit with the tots when I’m in the area next.
