Mother’s Day and Mariposa Cruise

971713_653109351607_112364977_nAs you know for us it’s any excuse to be outdoors doing unique things so this year when we were invited to spend Mother’s Day on Mariposa’s special Mother’s Day Brunch Cruise, we were ready in a flash! The Little Monkey, along with the hubs, my bro and my mom accompanied me on board the lovely Captain Matthew Flinders. The weather was not on our side according to the forecast so we ensured that we arranged to travel in UBER style to the Queen’s Quay Terminal.

We got there around 11:45 a.m and the sun was shining! It was a gorgeous walk up the pier where we, along with an eager group of shipmates, awaited boarding. Everything was very organized to my surprise and we were on board by noon. The staff were very friendly and we were able to easily stash our stroller under the table (you definitely don’t need a stroller but we were contemplating going for a walk post cruise, weather contingent ofcourse.

Self serve coffee and tea awaited us as we waited for everyone to board and get settled in. One of the bonus offers of the Mother’s Day Cruise was that the Sophie Hughes Mobile Spa was on hand for complimentary back or hand massages! SCORE! My mom and I were the first to step up for a 5 minute massage and while it was a fantastic surprise, it was such a tease! I was aching for a longer massage after that session. Must get that fix soon.

IMG_2185The cruise was fantastic as we lucked out with all sorts of weather, thunder showers one minute and then bright and sunny rays the next. I loved the mix of the weather and the DJ was playing some great tunes. The Little Monkey is all about the steps lately and decided to hang out next to the Mobile Spa and hopefully didn’t get in the way of too many people.

IMG_2187The lunch buffet had plenty of options and was the perfect brunch for ravenous me. My mom who’s a vegetarian was satisfied too. While the food is rationed in the start, there was plenty for seconds and thirds even! Drinks are not included in the cost of the ticket but there was a fully stocked bar to enjoy Mimosas and Caesars from. The staff on board was absolutely lovely and ensured that guests were well taken care of. We were even given additional massage minutes which my mom made use of.

I enjoyed the family friendly vibe on board the cruise but just be sure that you request a highchair or booster when you make your bookings. We used our My Little Seat so it wasn’t an issue for us at all. The Little Monkey enjoyed the copious fruit offerings and my favourite was the French Toast. Priced at approximately $50 for adults and $25 for kids aged 4 to 12 may be a bit steep but definitely warranted because you get a great view of the city (you get to go outside and enjoy the view and get some stellar photos, if weather is on your side ofcourse!) and a decent brunch. There’s a photographer on board if you’d like your group shot taken too.

I met a family who had been doing the Mother’s Day Cruise annually for over 10 years. They keep coming back because they love everything about the experience. The surprise rose for moms as we unboarded around 2 p.m was a final surprise! Mariposa has plenty of public cruises in Toronto which I’m sure are as fun as the Mother’s Day Cruise, so if you’re looking to do something out of the norm with your family or friends be sure check them out!

Sounds like a great time! I would love to take my mom on this but she gets sea sick. I’ve been to a couple of boat cruise events and it has been quite fun.

It was a smooth journey… I’ve always wondered if I might be sea sick. I hope not coz I plan to do a Disney Cruie some time in the future! Thanks for dropping by!

Bring Gravol. My cousin just came back from a Caribbean Cruise 2 weeks ago and her room was near the Bow. She said you feel it there the most. Try to avoid that area when you do go.
