Playing like a kid at Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square

1461032_682777172057_158184456_nRecently Toronto’s City Hall has been in the news quite a bit for political reasons and so it’s fitting that we’re talking about Nathan Phillips Square that forms part of City Hall’s forecourt. Tourists and locals can be found snapping scenic shots here at all times of the day and for us city dwellers, despite walking past this spot on a near daily basis, we too can be found capturing the many happenings here.

There’s many events and displays here that the landscape continues to capture our hearts and phones! Over the years I’ve gathered quite the collection of photos from this plaza mainly due to the fact that while the footprint is rather small (comparatively) there’s lots on offer , including water jets fountains in the summer and an ice rink in the winter (where the hubs and I went on our first date!!). Concerts, farmers’ markets, art exhibitions and demonstrations can all be witnessed here.

Fascinating eh? This very serious spot that houses city hall and the suits that work there is actually quite a fun spot for kids. One rather cool September day we decided on  a very fun impromptu visit for the Little Monkey to splish splash her way at one of Toronto’s most visited spots. Being carefree and spontaneous always reminds me of being on holiday and since we haven’t travelled since July I’m getting quite the itch. Exploring Toronto has been my goal to satisfy that thirst to be up in the sky… Another way I keep my travel itch at bay is by following other #IGThurssday bloggers such as Hines-Sight!

Do you have a similar splash spot in your city? Is it in an unusual spot?

I see you were prepared for the water with the waterproof suit! We made a mistake in our hometown, Lillehammer here in Norway, they put something similar in place in the city centre and in no time our daughter was running through the water… and we had no change for her. Luckily it was unusually hot day here! 🙂

These water play areas are a fantastic idea as long as you come prepared. When living in China our kids joined in with the fun and came out soaking wet – despite being a hot day a change of clothes would have been a great idea… The splash suit is a good idea for year-round water fun!

It’s such a great place right in the middle of the city! I loved seeing how people gathered around just to read books etc. Very relaxing spot!

That’s a great point… just last night in the dark of the evening I saw a couple on a date there… they even had a bunch of yellow flowers in three mason jars on the table. Was tres cute!

I love Nathan Phillips Square! I took a few photos when I was walking past earlier this fall because I realized that although I lived in Toronto for 8 years and have been in the GTA for 21 – I had no photos of either City Hall or Nathan Phillips Square!!

I love that first photo. So beautiful. So funny about the water. I would be so unprepared for that.

HOpe you are well, and thanks for linking up my blog. Much appreciated. Leigh

We usually go to YD Square for the fountains and other fun events. Next up, Kidzfest!
