Scoping out the new Bangkok Garden Bar

baby and life, bangkok garden Last week one of our favourite Thai spots, the Bangkok Garden, invited us for the unveiling of their new bar area and the hubs and I attended with Baby Boy. You may recall a recent review of Bangkok Garden during one of our date nights and while we’ve taken the Little Monkey here numerous times, I’m yet to write an eating out with baby post. Soon! I promise! On a side note – Happy 2nd Blogaversary to us!

eating out with baby I’d forgotten how awesome it is to attend events with a newborn. No running around or need to bribe them with treats to ensure they don’t misbehave in public. Ah! He slept the whole time in the car seat which meant that the hubs and I were able to enjoy the evening and really soak in the new vibe.

IMG_20131107_190943Bangkok Garden still has their large cozy dining area but the previously underutilized front area is now transformed into a bar where we can pop by for a quick drink and a nibble. I like that there’s two distinct spaces under one roof, especially since it’s very close to our home. This is one of our default go to spots when we have family in town  (both of our moms LOVE this restaurant!) so it’s great to know that we can now pop by for a cocktail and a bite  without having to go into the dining area.

I started the evening with a Tom Yum Siam Martini (which tastes very much like a Lychee ‘tini) thanks to a pumped bottle of milk! They do make good cocktails here and my favorite is probably their Red Eye to Bangkok  (not available that evening) which was a spicy Caesar that included some Steam Whistle in it! Yup beer and caesars do mix! We sampled a few of the dishes that were passed out and I was glad to stumble upon their soup station. If you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen many photos of their noodle soup. It is quite delicious and while we didn’t get to customize it as much as during the regular lunch buffet (understandably!) I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Looks like many Torontonians frequent Bangkok Garden and their sister spa, Elmwood (if you haven’t been, you simply must!!!) which meant that we bumped into some familiar faces at the event and had a chance to catch up with some friends.Lovely surprise! Another great highlight of the event was that Bangkok Garden donated $10,000 to Sick Kids Hospital. Great initiative and this too speaks to the fact that kids are welcomed at Bangkok Garden any time! Baby Boy’s first media event at less than 2 weeks old was a huge success!

Nice! I have also yet to go to Elmwood Spa. I need a mommy moment to myself.
