With Little Monkey our full transition from bottle to cup happened pretty quickly and there’s many lessons I learned from that experience. Yet with Baby Boy we’ve been slow on a whole bunch of things and I’d like to blame it on the second child syndrome….though really it may just be laziness. However, the time really has come for us to teach him that his bottles are going away for good…bad enough he sucks his thumb (don’t worry, the hubs and I were thumb-suckers into our teen years!), we can’t have him sucking on a bottle too!

You may recall that we’ve been huge fans of the Philips Avent bottles (and you can still enter to win the Classic and Natural bottles!) and as much as I would like to continue in our comfy zone, I know that unlike Little Monkey, Baby Boy won’t be making his own move towards a bottle free life. This why I’ve been slowly introducing him to the Philips Avent My Penguin Sippy Cup.
This sippy cup was quite different from the other cups I’ve seen and that’s what attracted me towards it. Not only is the stubby shape easier for the cute little hands to grab, but the angled silicone spout helps to develop a natural drinking position. Little Monkey still struggles with regular cups and I blame it on the other transition cups we used (and still do with her to be honest!).
Of course the My Penguin Sippy Cup is made from BPA free material, all parts are dishwasher safe (wohoo!!) and it all comes apart making it easy for us to REALLY clean it out properly. I have a feeling Baby Boy really likes the trainer handles with soft touch grips! I see him flinging the cups and walking around the house often.
One by one I’ve been slowly hiding (and throwing away) his other bottles but we still have quite a few floating around. What I’m LOVING about the new Avent range is that everything is interchangable! So this means that I can to place the nipples on the base of the My Penguin Sippy Cup as I slowly transition him! I can also place the Sippy cup lids on the new Avent bottles as well. How awesome is that?
It’s a slow journey for us as Baby Boy is adamant about using his bottles, we just need to toss them out cold turkey I guess. The My Penguin Sippy Cups are great because they have a lid which prevents any spills and so it travels well. Only issue is when I lose a cover and then the soft spout pushes against my purse and leaks! Clearly I need to be better at keeping track of our items.
