Ball and Chain

So we are one of those annoying parents who actually LIKE ( I know WHAT!?!?) taking our Little Monkey everywhere we go. She’s an easy child (for now) so why not? We are  hoping to save all the free babysitting  services for when she’s a bit older, more annoying and when we’d actually want a night away. But for now – I always ask “is this an adults only event?”. I’m well aware  that there are many out there who’d rather not be faced with a tantrummy, poopy ball of drool. That’s fine. But remember, I’ll have my pay back when you either have kids of your own, or when you try to invite your pets over. No I  kid. No I’m being serious. No no kidding. Promise. I’m okay with it being legal drinking age and over…. we  just won’t attend  but promise a rain check with no grudges (no really).

All that said, this week actually saw  me attending two events without the Little Monkey. The first was an impromptu decision to attend an event put together by the lovely folks at the Marketing Mag. They offered their Twitter followers free tickets to the “Worst Day in Advertising” event and my brother and his dog Buddy volunteered to babysit for the two hours. Easy. So off we went to check out a newly opened 1857 Miller Tavern (31 Bay  St) where the food was delicious ( I can’t believe it’s the same folks that manage the Fox and Fiddle next door) and the beer and wine was free flowing. It was a great event in terms of the location, food and booze.  Possibly even schmoozing. The actual speakers were a bit of a hit or miss but that’s completely expected at an event like this where people are encouraged to step up and talk about their worst day in advertising  (surprisingly most stories were interview based ones!). Always at the mercy of your speakers. I’m sure the next event will be even more fun. You should definitely check them out!

Yesterday was the  much awaited official launch of Masalamommas, a website catering to the South Asian community, mainly moms. This site is sure to be a big hit given the need for South Asians to connect with each other. I’m not saying that other non ethnic mom sites are of no use. Quite the contrary, those sites have been a  great resource for moms of all ethnicities. However a platform to bitch about the many (at times unsolicited) advice, wonder about random traditions (read $#*! my Mum says! yet?) and plan all those fun (albeit stressful) “ethnicy” events has been lacking. The launch event had an  insane amount of giveaways, it was great to see that there is a lot of support behind this endeavour. Highlights for me included the Chocola Chocola chocolate bar, the Sari  Closet showdown ( I think I would have done quite well at this contest, despite being a train wreck when  I try to drape myself, . It looked like so much fun!) and seeing a community of strong women getting together to celebrate not only this great resource but also each other. I see some good things coming out of here and look forward to more events. Unfortunately my  phone (silly Wind!) had no connectivity and I found it super frustrating as I  would have loved to be live tweeting. Next time!  Oh  also discovered a new Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Gewürztraminer combo wine from Chateau Des Charmes called Generation Seven . I’d give a pass on the very  interesting red for now as it was a bit too young for my preference. But the thought of a Cab Franc, Cab  Sauv, Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir and Merlot combo sounded too interesting to give a pass. I was surprised that despite being a sponsor these guys were not the featured wine for the event. Marketing miss. I was lucky to be invited to the event as a date but unfortunately my date was feeling under the weather at the last min… I did find a last minute step in and lo and behold! She won an awesome prize from the Sweat  Shoppe . We’ve heard about the trending food and shopping pop up shops and this is another concious pop up shop featuring Canadian Designers. I’m looking forward to checking them out! Oh and by the way, if you’re wondering, YES I did fit into a dress I last wore when I was two months pregnant. YAY to my old wardrobe returning…slowly… ever so slowly.

Tonight is wine club night and  the Little Monkey is stepping out with us. Maybe even pop by an engagement party.  What plans do you have and will you be taking your little one… or inviting your  friend’s little ones over?

Challenge :  We got a free Sari rental from Sari Closet in our goodie bags… I’m willing to share this with someone who wants to dress up… I’ve got quite a few of  my own so I’ll even join you on a  night out. It’ll be fun wearing one to the most random place ever. You can even choose  the venue. Comment below if interested!

    Hey there,

This just got sent to me. I was the event organizer and brain child for many of the happenings – twitter, fountain, sarista showdown, fashion show and of course bringing sweatshoppe and chocola chocola on board.

Im really happy to read this. It gives me great pleasure to know that guests of guests had a great time! I wanted it to be engaging, social, fun and an experience to talk about! So glad you’re doing just that!

Thanks for the fab write and looking forward to following your upcoming blogs.

PS – sorry we couldn’t give total focus on Chateau, unfortunately it wasn’t a marketing miss, we had restrictions as typically this brand is not served in this specific venue, so its challenging to overstep the stipulations outlined by beverage suppliers of that venue. This is quite common actually. I do hope that Babaluu does support this local vineyard. From what I heard, the wine was darn good!

    Thanks,

Thanks for stopping by Lina. Great event, given my event planning and PR background I definitely saw the hard work that went into it, no wonder it was such a success! Working in the alcoholic beverage industry I’m WELL aware of the trials and tribulations in featuring certain brands. Excited to see what you come up with next!
