Birthday Celebrations and Cake

Disclosure: I am part of the PTPA Brand Ambassador Program with Enbridge and I received compensation as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog, as always, are are totally mine!

Next Monday I turn 35 years  young old young old young and while I usually like to gather friends and family for an experience (like our craft beer crawl last year and Kensington tour the year before ), this year I asked the hubs to figure it out! It’s time I sat back and did nothing, right? So we’re hosting a BBQ on our rooftop and we have our fingers crossed for some good weather!

birthday cakeGiven that the hubs likes to take things easy, I did offer some suggestions and even put a Pinterest board together (gentle nudge never hurts anyone right?). Growing up, a birthday celebration ALWAYS included a cake and the year before my dad got one for me…however, last year, there was none!! Can you IMAGINE? The hubs doesn’t like cake and doesn’t really think it’s a focal point of a birthday celebration! I beg to differ and it seems like 63% of Canadians agree with me that cake makes your birthday more special! All that said, it seems that women (69%) believe this more than their male counterparts (57%), and the importance of cake diminishes with age! So I’ll base his cake dislike based on the fact that he’s older than I am! HAH! I found these stats through the recent survey conducted by Enbridge as part of helping Canadians celebrate life and birthdays .

birthday cakeFor the kids’ parties I have always enjoyed making the cakes (like this Elmo one and this pull apart figure 1!) I saw this insane cake on my pal TheCulturePearl’s Instagram feed and jokingly told the hubs that he needs to get this for me!! I doubt he will but hey,a girl can dream, right? My jeans (that I barely fit into!) will be happier if I don’t get that massive donut cake, so I won’t be too gutted if it’s not there this weekend.

Enbridge provides the energy to bring all the little birthday essentials to life (like that cake!!!) and will literally be fueling our BBQ this weekend. Earlier today I saw their 100 Birthdays Video and shared it with the hubs as well! I found the music catchy but especially love how they feature 100 people, of various ages, blowing that birthday candle with zest and all their might!

Celebrating all the little milestones are important and birthdays are especially so. After this weekend’s casual BBQ I’ll be in planning mode for Little Monkey and Baby Boy’s Max & Ruby themed birthday celebrations in October. I have a feeling this one will take a lot more energy to plan that last year’s Princesses and Superheroes one! Now, what other hints can I send him about that cake?

Happy birthday! I agree about the birthday cake. You need a cake. I might not care about anything else, but if I don’t get a cake then I get incredibly moody…. More as I get older…..
