Eating Out With Baby | Hey Lucy Cabbagetown

dining out with babyDining out with baby in TorontoCabbagetown is home to many family friendly spots and I had heard that popular King Street resto Hey Lucy! had opened a restaurant in Cabbagetown. So this past weekend after a gloriously sunny Sunday afternoon at the park by Gerrard and  Jarvis we wandered over in search of a cold pint. Our first choice Stout was pretty busy and we had two strollers, four kids under the age of four and four adults. That’s a lot of bellies to feed and strollers in need of parking! Luckily Hey Lucy not only had a lovely back patio but they also had plenty of smiles for the kids and their gear.

Our friends live around the corner so they stashed their stroller and tricycle at home while we brought in our double stroller. We maneuvered our stroller through the main restaurant area and bounced it down four wooden steps onto the turf lined patio where there was space at the back to park it. It took us a while to settle down but the bench at the back was perfect for Little Monkey and her friend while Baby Boy and his friend each had their own high chair.

The kids meal was a fabulous deal at $7 for a selection of mains (the pizza was quite large!), a cookie and unlimited drinks.  Little Monkey and Baby Boy split a  pepperoni pizza ( there was a $2 surcharge for the Pepperoni and that was fine by us!) and we brought back half of it for dinner this week. The unlimited drinks included milk and Little Monkey had a field day with the endless supply of milk.

Dining out with baby in TorontoThe girls are truly best friends and I love watching them together. I bet the boys will keep us on our toes in a couple months but for now it’s pretty fun for our families to hang out. The hubs ordered the Sausage Supreme which had everything from bacon to sausage and pepperoni and paired it with a pint from Amsterdam Brewery. Given that he ordered my first choice I opted for the Smoked Bacon Pesto pizza which had artichokes and romano cheese. I paired it with a pint of Creemore and brought back a couple slices which I had for breakfast the following day (mmm cold pizza!).

Dining out with baby in TorontoIn my younger years I had frequented Hey Lucy! for their $4 martini Wednesdays and I was surprised to learn that they host family Tuesdays where kids eat free! What a great idea! Given that we hang out in the Cabbagetown area during the summer (they host many festivals and of course Riverdale Farm is on that end) I see us swinging by here quite a bit. It’s a casual atmosphere where the kids can be a bit loud (you should hear the girls laugh and chat in a gibberish language!) and the pizza is quite good. Don’t get me wrong, it’s no Pizzeria Liberetto but it’s still quite good. Don’t forget to ask for their chilli oil! With summer on her way Hey Lucy! in Cabbagetown is definitely a spot you can take your kids to when you’re looking to enjoy a pint!
