Snacks and Drinks After Hours

Something about Fall and its coziness makes it prime season for snuggling on the couch snacking the evening away as we watch Tv and feed our sloth-y desires. I know many don’t appreciate that it gets dark early but I do. I really and truly do. WHY? Because the kids get fooled into thinking it’s much later than it is and they tend to go to bed “early” which means the hubs and I have  some extra time to unwind. No complains from me!

This week I wanted to share some of our Tv watching snack and drink indulgences. We share the snacks as a family but the drinks are just for us 😉 We’re currently watching The Bridge, Boss, Homeland and of course, Grey’s Anatomy is back! I’ve been trying to rush my work so that as soon as Little Monkey decides it’s bed time I can pull out my snacks and enjoy an UNDISTURBED drink.

Popcorn, Indiana

peanut butter chocolate popcornThis kettlecorn came into our house disguised as a sample but became a household staple very quickly. It satisfies my sweet salty cravings delightfully with its combination of peanut butter, chocolate and popcorn, creating a super snack. Popcorn, Indiana’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Drizzlecorn (what a name!) is addictive, especially when you’re watching Grey’s antics and melodrama. Little Monkey was caught eating my first bag and I wasn’t the least bit pleased but given that it has no trans fat or artificial flavours or colours, it’s a relatively healthy snack. It can be a bit messy  so ensure you have a wet wipe nearby if you’re too lazy to get off the couch like I am. I’m on the hunt for the Caramel Sea Salt version which isn’t in Canada yet, but I hope it lands on our shelves soon!

Spearhead Belgian Style Stout

Spearhead beer, belgian style stout, globetrotter series, ontario craft beer, snack and beer
That handcrafted artisenal popcorn and Avery’s smoldering looks deserves a smooth, complex black ale and that’s just what I like to pair up my Thursday evenings with. As you know we’re huge fans of Spearhead and stouts in general, so this one brewed with Demerara sugar, Curaçao orange peel, coriander and Trappist Ale yeast has us prepping for our Belgian travels this winter. The Belgian Style Stout from their Globetrotter series is creamy with notes of chocolate and espresso. There’s even hints of spice. Perfect to warm you up this cold fall season.

Popchips

pop chipsHubs loves his chips and can easily go through a bag a day if he could and so when we discovered Popchips everyone was quite pleased. Unlike most regular chips these are not baked or fried and aren’t the least bit greasy. Full of flavour these ‘popped’ potatoes are a great guilt free snack and hits all the marks when it comes to gluten free, nut free, GMO free. The crunch is quite satisfying as we watch Kelsey Grammar put on quite the show during episodes of Boss. There’s all sorts of flavours from ketchup to salt and vinegar (the hubs’ favourite flavours) but I prefer the original flavour because it pairs beautifully with my gin cocktails.

Ungava Gin

Ungava gin, snacks and drinksSomething about fall and gin go hand in hand for me. I recently discovered Ungava Gin and we’ve been having fun experimenting with various ingredients. This Canadian grown gin boasts six rare botanicals, native to the Arctic region and the bright yellow colour is definitely eye catching. The Wild Rose Hips and Labrador Tea got me thinking about my favourite concoction – Mixing Ungava Gin with coconut water! It’s simply perfect for those tired nights when I don’t have the energy to get my cocktail shaker out and it’s also hydrating and fitting for those episodes of Homeland scenes in Pakistan.

As the cooler weather envelopes us we’ll be entertaining at home even more and I’m sure our snack list will continue to grow. What are some of your favourite snacks to enjoy once the kids are tucked away?
