Try More Anniversary Celebrations

Ford MustangLast week we celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary and thought we might sneak out for a weekend without the kids, as we did last year. However those plans did not materialize and instead we made plans to take the kids with us for a cottage experience. As you know, we have been on the road this summer with Ford’s wonderful vehicles and we received a call from the lovely folks, asking us to secure sitters because they were sending us out on a date night! Luckily my folks were in town and so last Monday, the hubs and I signed up for a night of trying more with Ford.

driving range torontoWe had no idea what we would be doing that evening, and the mystery was very intriguing! After my zip-lining experience I really should have been a bit more weary about going in blind, but I wasn’t. I had faith in the Ford of Canada team and they proved that they really do know us!  As part of the Try More with Ford program, we were handed keys to the 2015 Mustang (the same one we took with us to Shamrock Bay Resort) and told to hit up the driving range. It has been over 3 years since I last mini golfed and I had never been to the driving range before, so it was all quite new to me. The hubs was excited to flex his golfing skills and we both enjoyed laughing at my many missed attempts at hitting the balls. It was a hot evening so it was nice being outdoors and not having to worry about the kids and if they were lathered in enough sunscreen! The evening was about us and enjoying our city lifestyle. Cruising around downtown in the Ford Mustang was a quite the experience. We received so many compliments on the car and strangers came up to chat the hubs up. We had two guys come up at two different points in the city and tell us how awesome the new design looked and how they weren’t usually fans of sports cars but that this one looked very different (in a good way).

Rock lobster leslievilleThe next part of our evening was dinner at Rock Lobster’s Leslieville location. We’ve taken the kids to the Queen West location before but we’ hadn’t been to the East end location before. The menu was slightly different and there was a nod to owner Matt’s Halifax origins. Needless to say, the hubs got the donair. He had been craving one so it was great timing. We enjoyed a classic Rock  Lobster Caesar over oysters and planned our upcoming travels. It had been ages since we had been out to a restaurant without the kids and we enjoyed it immensely! Baby Boy has been a handful lately and our restaurant days are going to take a small hiatus I think. We went through this phase with Little Monkey when she turned two but it seems Baby Boy has started his yelling and screaming stint a bit earlier. He still doesn’t fully comprehend things so the threats and negotiations fall on deaf ears (and very cute goofy grins!). It was a much needed break and a lovely way to squeeze in an anniversary celebration. A big thank you to the entire Ford of Canada team for putting this expeirence together for us. We always try to do more with the kids but often sacrifice our solo outings, especially since my parents are no longer in downtown Toronto.

Check out the Ford Try More program and be sure to keep an eye out for posters at your favourite restos. We asked our server about it at Rock Lobster and received a pair of complimentary oysters, just for inquiring about it! That was easy! Since having kids I’ve become a bit more anxious about doing ‘dangerous’ things but I’ve also been pushing myself to do things outside of my comfort zone and so the Try More campaign really resonated with me. Perhaps I should put axe throwing on my list of things to do!

What would you put on your Try More list if you had the chance?

Sounds like a great day! If I had the chance I think I’d try to learn how to swim so I can go cliff diving! Also, try to travel a bit more alone!

Hiba… not too late to do either! I’m not a great swimmer either but I’ve seen plenty of people jump in with life jackets!
