Bottle Feeding Baby with Philips AVENT

We’ve been bottle feeding Baby Boy since the very start, just as we did with Little Monkey but times are changing and we’re getting new challenges thrown at us constantly. I was able to breastfeed both kids until the 10-11 month mark and now that both are onto whole milk ,life is a bit easier when it comes to my freedom to roam around as I please. However the challenge lately has been trying to find the right temperature for both kids. Little Monkey wants milk at room temperature and Baby Boy wants warm milk…who has time for that?

Disclosure : I am a member of the #AVENTMOMSCA team and receive special perks as part of my association but as always, opinions are totally mine.

I’ve been using AVENT bottles since that was what the lactation consultant suggested when I was engorged three years ago with Little Monkey and so when the AVENT team asked me to test out their new glass bottle and bottle warmer, I accepted the offer. Both the hubs and I were very curious about the glass bottle as we’ve been using plastic bottles with both kids and the thought of a heavy glass bottle shattering across our floor was all we could think about. Our microwave conked out on us at the same time and I was no longer able to heat milk in the microwave (yes I know it’s not recommended as hot spots can burn baby’s tongue but it was a quick solution at 4 a.m. and I got into the nasty habit). My solution was to heat water and pop the bottle in it…needless to say Baby Boy did not have the patience for that!

Philips AVENT Natural Glass Bottle
Philips AVENT glass bottlePhilips AVENT launched the Natural Bottle in Glass this year and it’s thermal shock and heat resistant – all good things! The glass portion reminded us of a mason jar….nice and thick and so when Baby Boy flings it across the room, which he does often, it doesn’t break! At least it hasn’t over the last two month of usage. I also found that the glass bottle heats up quicker than our plastic AVENT bottle. As I stumble around the kitchen with my eyes closed trying to ensure he doesn’t wake Little Monkey with his howls for milk, every second is precious.

The bottle comes in 4 oz and 8 oz sizes and Baby Boy holds it up by himself with no issues as there’s a little indent for their pudgy little hands to rest comfortably. The nipple has a a ‘breast-like’ shape which makes it easy to latch-on which is useful during those early stages of bottle feeding. An interesting feature in the nipple that came with the Philips AVENT glass bottle was that there were unique comfort petals inside the nipple and apparently this increases softness and flexibility without collapsing when it’s sucked on. I am still weary of travelling with the glass bottle but I am definitely a fan of the bottle itself! Much easier to clean out too and doesn’t get destroyed as easily as a plastic bottles.

Philips AVENT Fast Bottle Warmer
Philips AVENT bottle warmer. breastfeeding bottle warmer, food warmerThis bottle warmer would have been a godsend during my breastfeeding stage…seriously why did I never buy one? The Philips AVENT bottle warmer ensures gentle and even warming, as fast as 3 minutes! What I love most is that there’s a handy defrost setting which is great for frozen breastmilk packs and any frozen food. Yes food.. you can warm food in there too. I’ve tossed in other types of bottles and it all fits in the cavity, so it isn’t just for AVENT bottles. All you need to do is plop the bottle or jar in the cavity, pour water to reach the marked line and turn the warmer on by simply selecting the right setting.

There’s options for half bottles, full bottles and defrost so you can control the level of heat to an extent. My only issue is that there’s no timer, and I’ve walked out the door having forgotten my bottle in the warmer! Luckily the hubs was at home both times when this happened so he turned it off. When I got  home two hours later the milk was still warm!

Its amazing how much noise baby can make when they need their milk in the middle of the night. I too would be worried about the glass bottles but you have put my fear to rest
