St. Patrick’s Day Party Food

St. Patrick's Day Party FoodThat green holiday is on its way and each year we host a shindig though this year things are a bit different. We will still don our green gear and enjoy a few Jamesons so if you’re looking for some relatively healthy and fun St. Patrick’s Day party food we’ve got a few for you to consider.

Each year I visit the dollar store and stock up on new decorations and random stickers and tattoos. I also buy a few silly hats and wigs which I used to pass on to guests who don’t come decked out in all green. Yes if you’re attending our St. Patrick’s Day party in future years you BETTER come in festive fashion! Below are some St. Patrick’s Day food ideas featuring ones we’ve made over the years.

St Patrick’s Day Food Ideas

St. Patrick's Day Party FoodBacon Egg Cups

These happened by accident but they were a hit at our last St. Patrick’s Day party. Simply grab a few ready made pastry dough packs ( I used the croissant variety) and form a cup shape in a cupcake pan. Bake for half the  time as directed and then crack in an egg. Do it gently so that the yolk stays intact and drop in some pre-cooked bacon. The bacon will crisp up in the oven so don’t over cook your bacon. That said, event burnt bacon is pretty delicious! I sprinkled a bit of green food colouring before I placed the cupcake pan back in the oven and what you see is the end result. Cooking times can vary but from start to finish it took me less than an hour and a half to make these. They warm up nicely  in the microwave so it’s easy to make these in the morning and have them ready for the guests.

Kiddy Shamrockwiches

These were a huge hit with the kids and I kept it very simple. Cream cheese and cucumber slices were placed on regular slices of bread and then using a Shamrock shaped cookie cutter I cut these guys up. I made these in the morning and then kept them wrapped in a damp cloth so they were still soft in the evening. I should have made more given how fast they disappeared!

St. Patrick's Day Party FoodPretzel Shamrocks

A friend of mine made these for us when she visited us during Christmas and I knew they’d be popular at any gathering- can you say no to Chocolate and Caramel Pretzel Shamrocks? Beauty of this one is that you can make this days ahead…as long as you don’t eat them all! Grab a bag of small hard pretzels and place Hershey’s kisses or Caramilks on each pretzel and pop it in a pre-heated oven (250 C) for about 6 minutes (they can burn easily so keep tabs on the timer). Pull them out and gently press in a green M&M (or three) and let it cool. It’s chewy. It’s delicious. It’s perfectly sweet and salty!

 Shamrock Cake

Each year I make a slightly different version of a shamrock cake and last year I was extremely lazy. Some Betty Crocker cake mix was poured into mini heart shaped pans and that was it. Three of those hearts form a shamrock… not a lucky clover though! I also baked the extra batter in a square pan (for me to eat) and cut out a long stem. VOILA! Decorate with any type of icing you like. I found some minty sparkly green icing and it was very easy to decorate the cake and left our breath minty fresh.

Rainbow and Pot o’ Gold

Each house deserves a rainbow with a pot of gold and if you’re having little ones over, this fruit platter will be a hit. Simply arrange fruits in your favourite colours (it may not look exactly like a rainbow but you’ll get the point across). Grapes, oranges, tomatoes, peppers and berries all make beauty rainbows. We flagged each side of the platter with a bowl of marshmallows or gold foil wrapped chocolates. Ideally you’d have gold coins in a mini cauldron but they aren’t always as easy to find outside of Halloween.

Remember that you can always include some guacamole, shishito peppers, matcha drinks and edamame for a healthier round up!

You may also want to check out this post for more St. Patrick’s Day inspiration. It was one of my very first ones and I do apologize for the tiny pictures there. Oh and here’s some green food without any dyes and here’s some cocktail inspirations! Whatever you do, we hope you’re gearing up for a festive St. Patrick’s Day! Any favourite green recipes you’d like to share with us?
