JK School Celebrations – Parenting Rant

My life is a big case of organized chaos and as I try to do it all, the biggest struggle I currently have is keeping track of the many celebrations happening at Little Monkey’s school. The last two weeks have been insanely busy on that front and I’ve been scrambling last minute for every little thing! Little Monkey’s loving these celebrations of course and her teachers are fabulous but seriously, four in the last week alone has been hard to juggle with last minute announcements ( I tend to realize these are happening around 9 p.m. the night before, after a full day of work).

From chaperoning at the book bank (here’s a clip of us on CTV news!), to figuring out what Civvies Day meant (no uniform as long as we paid the $1) at 11 p.m. the night before (because that’s when I spotted the text that was sent out earlier that evening ), I’m thinking there’s way too many celebrations happening at school. I’m just glad she hasn’t asked us to continue the celebrations at home!! I’m already dreading Easter this year because we may just have to up the ante there to avoid disappointment!

Last night was the best… getting ready for Valentine’s Day celebrations. Though this last one was truly my fault because I did have plenty of warning when we received a list of 30 names last week. It totally caught me off guard that we had to make 30 valentines! Of course the hubs only told me AFTER I bought the chocolate that we were supposed to make cards – but luckily her teacher approved the chocolate. There’s so many amazing Pinterest ideas but I knew I wouldn’t have the patience or the time to dabble in that this week … so below is what I was up to last night as I scrambled to find some stickers that might work on the Kinder Eggs I found on sale, who cares that the labels were leftover from Christmas and that I had to butcher them in order to fit, right?

I’m not a fan of giving chocolates and loot bags filled with junk that ends up in the trash, but I figured the Kinder Eggs would be a hit with all and so Little Monkey wrote everyone’s names out (teachers included) as I sipped on my Chivas Regal and spelled out the names for her…. well past 9 p.m.! She continued to whine through it all which just added to the fun factor.

Luckily Little Monkey reminded me that she was supposed to wear red, pink or white today. Tomorrow’s a PA day….wish us luck!

p.s – can someone please give me a list of these celebrations a year in advance please?

Noooooo STOP feeding the chaos. Stop sending in chocolate or my most hated item… pencil for every little celebration. You can celebrate holidays at HOME, not everything needs to turn into a celebration at school too /end rant
