Organic Chicken | Yorkshire Valley Farms

A couple weeks back I was invited to a Chick N’ Dip party hosted by Yorkshire Valley Farms. Needless to say that with a title like that I could hardly say no! At the event we got to sample their organic chicken nuggets alongside a whole bunch of sauces. You know me… I love using sauces in every dish I make. I’m lazy and the sauces make my dishes turn out gourmet … just like that! Hey presto!

In the span of two hours I think I ate 30 chicken nuggets (no lie!) so yes they were tasty and seemed healthy enough (shhh.. don’t read the caloric details). I was quiet excited to give these a try at home because the hubs loves his McDonald’s chicken nuggets (only thing he eats from there) and all kids love nuggets right? We’ve been struggling when it comes to food and the Little Monkey, she’s picky and has to be in the mood to eat. If not…. tofu, egg whites, milk and some rice and curry is all she’ll have.

One lazy evening when I could hardly be bothered to cook dinner, instead of putting a call out for delivery I popped some Yorkshire Valley Farms organic Chicken Nuggets in the oven. While I was waiting for them to bake I quickly whipped up a batch of polenta (super easy, corn meal, stock and whatever veggies you have and in 10 minutes you have a meal).

Paired with some of the lovely sauces that were gifted at the event, the hubs and I had a field day with the nuggets. We loved having a “‘kids dinner” ! The Little Monkey… well..she nursed a nugget all evening. I’ll have to keep offering her the nuggets and veggies in the hopes that her appetite returns. Usually if there’s some spice in the mix she’s game for trying a dish atleast once!

Given the horror stories around raising chickens, we’ve been trying to switch to organic meat for a while but downtown living has a price and so do the fresh organic chicken offerings at our local grocery store.  Learning more about the organic process and designation through my chat with one of the farmers for Yorkshire Valley Farms’ , Nick Ahrens from Betolianni Organic Farm, definitely made me appreciate the TLC and quality processes involved in getting fresh organic meat to our tables. There is comfort in knowing that their chickens are raised on local certified organic farms under natural conditions in the province of Ontario.

Does your family do organic meat? Has it be challenging or relatively easy? Would love some tips!

I hear you on the price of living in the city + trying to buy healthy foods. We don’t really buy organic meats, but we do try our best to purchase organic fruits and veggies, particularly ones where the skins/peels are eaten. We all can only do what we can, right?
